In addition to my counselor's recommendation, I received a recommendation from my 10th and 11th grade math teacher and my 11th grade English teacher, both of whom I love (so I assume my recs were definitely good). I think my essays were also overall pretty good: maybe nothing extraordinary or revolutionary, but good indicators of my writing ability and my own personality. If it matters, I also have legacies at Cornell and Duke.

Thanks again, I really appreciate any and all helpful feedback!

looks pretty good

Colleges: MIT (EA), UMich (EA), Yale, Princeton, Duke, Cornell, Brown, Harvard, WashU, Tufts, Northwestern, RPI

You have very strong stats in general and a relatively strong resume. I’d say your chances of acceptance are excellent at a majority of the schools on your list. MIT, Yale, Princeton, and Harvard are tough to predict but you’ll be relatively competitive at these schools as well. Good luck!

Thanks, both of you

Hey, you’ve got decent stats. Your academics and and ec’s are certainly enough, and they look very “in-depth”, so it’s not just some laundry list. Only problem is, you don’t have a hook. There are a bunch of people applying with your stats and ec’s to MIT and HYP, but what do you have that sets you apart. Nonetheless, you are a competitive applicant, don’t get me wrong. I’m assuming that you applied already so all the weight is on your essays at this point.

Best of luck dude!

This just appears to be a case of “I’ll apply to every well-known prestigious school!”

I just don’t understand how one could apply to both MIT and Duke, and expect to fit in at both. The atmospheres are just so completely different between the two it is unbelievable.

You seem to have very good grades, scores, and extracurriculars, but what you need is something that will make you stand out from the rest of the applicants. How are you with community service? Maybe plan a large scale project with a couple of friends and donate the money/items/etc that you collect to an organization that you support. Are you interested in traveling? Find an organization that takes students abroad to participate in community service projects.

Your essays (and for certain colleges) your interview will be very important. You definitely have a great resume. All you need is one thing that can allow the reader of your application to remember who you are.

Good luck and all the best!
Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1040723-doing-enough-ivy.html

That’s not necessarily true. I’ve visited both MIT and Duke, for example, and loved different aspects about both of them. I have older friends who attend both schools, and there are different parts of both schools that interest me. Trust me, I’ve thought through all of my applications. When I started thinking about college, for example, Penn, Dartmouth, Columbia, UChicago, and several other schools that fit the “prestigious” mold were among my interests, but after more time researching and (in some cases) visiting, I removed them from my list. This isn’t a “do you think I’d like these schools” thread; I’ve already made up my mind that I like them.

To the person who actually addressed the point of the thread: thanks, and hopefully my essays were interesting and unique enough to serve as a hook.

Update- I thought I should mention, since interviews were brought up, that I’ve already had an interview with MIT that, in my opinion, went exceedingly well.
Any other opinions?

I think you look great at Cornell and Duke as a legacy and the non ivies. The low CR score and no stand out EC will probably make HYPMB tough. If you’re from an underrepresented state and/or are valedictorian it will help. Good luck!

Appreciated, but doesn’t the fact that I received an 800 on CR the second time I took it make up for the first score? I would think my overall composite SAT would be a strength, not a weakness

MIT (EA), UMich (EA), Yale, Princeton, Duke, Cornell, Brown, Harvard, WashU, Tufts, Northwestern, RPI

You certainly are very-well qualified academically, and your ECs are pretty good too. A “hook” is missing, though with good essaysm you do stand a shoft. RPI, UMich, and Tufts are all matches. I think you have a good/great shot at NU, Cornell, Duke, and WashU. MIT, Yale, Princeton, Brown, and Harvard are reaches, but still definite possibilities. Good luck :)

Please chance back:
