I hadn't thought to ask until now, but did anyone else on this forum go to the Williams multicultural weekends?

I went on the October 30-November 1st one.

If it wasn't for that all-expense paid opportunity I would never have considered Williams. Hmmm.... I loved Williams. Seriously. Sigh. I hope I'm accepted. Okay, that's all for now. :)

Sorry it wasn't so great for you staticsoliloquy... I don't know how you can't love something like that when it's all paid for. I guess maybe it's just me but I love traveling, especially if its free!!! Plus, it was cool to get a taste of college life. I liked how we got to sit in a few classes. Plus, it was fun hanging out with some freshman I met who were all pretty cool. I just feel so fortunate that I had the opportunity. THere's no way I could have visited an eastern school if I didn't have Williams multicultural event.

By the way, I got in from being a rural Minnesota girl. I don't have any ethnic minority status. Do you think I will be considered a minority when applying, too? I sure hope it was....(since I'm sure they already made a decision for me).

COols... That's crazy that someone else who went comes on CC, too. I laugh at myself for wasting so much time here. How did you guys find out about CC. I just stumbled upon it when I was looking for college info one day, and now I am hooked - especially while anticipating my early decision letter.

Cools, did you apply ED to Williams, are you applying RD, or not at all?

Also, where are you from COols. It would be crazy if you were someone I actually met while there.

i'm applying there RD.... I live in CT and i stumbled on here one day while looking for college info too. But my stats are all low (by their standards at least)... soo... its quite a reach for me. The thing I do have going for me is that I am first generation college, socio-economically disadvantaged and i guess 1st generation american (Chilean parents) So, i hope that helps out. But i still find it amazing sometimes... all of us here for the most part score at least in the top 15% of SATs and we all discuss how 'bad' our scores are. Lol. Anyways, which dorms did you stay in? I stayed in a junior dorm with some sophomores.

I stayed in a freshman dorm room in Willy B, or so they call it. You know my stats are a little lower, too. I guess I'll find out soon if they were too low. I think the factors you mentioned should help you COol.

I have to say complaining about anything above 1500 is pathetic! Even above 1400 feels pathetic to me....

SAT 1330 (V 700, M 630), should have taken this again
ACT 31 (plz use this instead of SAT)

My first test score was a 31 ACT but I retook it in October to see if I could bring it up a point or two but I did poorly (felt crappy too) and ended up with 28. Unfortunately, I had already put Williams and others on my free schools to send scores to. Anyway, my main standardized tests are low for WIlliams.

My SAT II's aren't really low, but I don't think they are as important as SAT/ACT...

Spanish - 750
US History - 700
Writing - 790
Math IIC - 670

I had a 1300 on my first run with the SATs...I'm just thinking about the fact that last year the average score was (don't quote me here exactly) about 1427 for those who were admitted under ED. In past years its been closer to 1400 or 1410 (I think)...but hey...that's the AVERAGE, which means that there are scores both above and below.

williamsregister.com is a great source for admissions info...just do a search for admissions or early decision.

isnt a 31-ACT approximately equal to a 1380 on the SAT? :-D

I stayed in Sage B...I can't remember my host's name. Morgan West had big rooms...I have a friend who goes there that lives in that building.

I went during the oct 30 - nov 1 weekend and stayed at sage b, too. my host was this black guy who, not lying here, had some girl in his room when I went to sleep. i woke up later and could hear them making noises and stuff. it was terrifying. no - kidding. i was glad for him, but he was never ever around. but, yeah, williams is so gorgeous. it's the only small liberal arts college i'm applying to. i went to swarthmore in november and its not nearly as awesome as williams.

If they admitted you to the weekend it is because they are interested in you and you will most likely be admitted. You guys have to remember that you may be top 85% in general but you are probably top 95% minority, maybe even higher. Last year only 2000 AA scored over a 1300 out of 150,000 people who scored over a 1300 and then only 200 scored over a 1450. So don't stress over your 'low' SAT score.

Hi I too am a multicultural alumi =)....I stumbled upon this post when i searched google on whether or not williams posted their ED status online.

Apparently they do not. boo hoo.

Now I have a dilemna with other apps coming due soon and whether or not I should start on them.

ETA: til they mail it 4 more days.
It will reach my house within 10.
Stanford's app is due in 4. what am i to do? Also school lets out next week for break and a bunch of apps are due around jan 1.

I do not want to overburden my teachers with teacher recs if I don't have to. Would it be obnoxious of me to call Williams on Monday and ask whether or not I got in?

azncoolkiemonstr, same here! But I've prepared all my applications already and the minute I hear from Williams, I'll either 1) burn the rest of my apps in a celebratory bonfire (haha!) or 2) cry, then have them mailed off (I'm waiting til the last minute 'cause our school makes us mail them by DHL and it's so freakin' expensive). I think you should email them first and explain your circumstances (hopemanjkjk was telling me to do that) then call them? Good luck!

Haha` Yah they do. It's not really for us, its just that they don't want to be responsible for like missing pieces of info (like if the colleges go: "Oh we didn't get your transcript.", the counselling office will bring out the receipt and say, "Here, you signed it and said you recieved it". Something along those lines... LOL! I feel bad for you, at least even if they didn't give a crap, y

i went on the October 2-4th weekend, and I didn't like the town at all. I come from a city, and I need a city. I could jog through williamstown downtown in less than a minute. That very idea isn't appealing to me. I need coffeeshop that opens till 3 AM; I need movies theater that plays more than 2 movies. I need clubs and malls.

Their labs weren't that equipped. I look through the course catalogs and not enough course selections.

The only two things I like about Williams are the teachers and the students. They are both very warm and friendly. I sat in a junior biochem class called Regulatory System, and the teacher graduated from Caltech w/ a PhD. She was very enthusiastic and awesome. The class had less than 15 people too, so that was tight. Oh the people, they were so wonderful. My host was nice, and random williams students were great, so were the people who worked in the admission commitee. You don't feel like there'd be any cut-throat competition at all.

I'd like to know how many people who attended the multicultural weekends are accepted ED and how many deferred/rejected. If you went and get your decision please let us know how it went. Thx!
