How do transfer students who come from a small college adapt and make friends? The body size of the school is estimated to be 50k+, I am interested to hear what people have to say.

any ideas?

I’m a transfer student. It was easy for me to adapt to UC Davis, since the community here in general is friendly and pretty welcoming. My first week here was pretty much doing welcome activities. I joined clubs here that I was in back in community college (such as Circle K International)–I haven’t exactly clicked with anyone yet (I’m friendly with my roommates, but don’t see them as close friends), but that’s just me–it takes a really long time for me to establish a friendship with someone.

Honestly, the same way you would as a Freshman. Only you will haft to find the opportunities, as there is Freshman mixer type stuff going on… There are plenty of ways to plug in at big universities. And honestly its pretty much like how it is in the real world.

It depends on the person. I came from a small HS with a graduating class of less than 100. I’m the only one from my HS to go to my school now which is about 40k+. I made a lot of friends and I couldn’t imagine going to another school.

I went from a small high school (24ish people in graduating class) to medium university (1500ish per year). I’m guessing it’s kind of similar…you get used to it fast.

Nobody can answer this inquiry well, as personality types are so different.
I’m sure it will be easier for you than me though.
My HS graduating class is 19 and I may be attending UMD with 40k others!

There is almost certainly a club of students in your major, and I guarantee there are campus clubs, groups, volunteer organizations, SIGs, etc. that will appeal to you and your interests. I go to a campus of 50k peeps and there is a club for nearly every thing, from board games to physics. Your school’s web page ought to have a directory of these clubs, and from there you find one you want to join, contact the student leader, and bada bing bada boom you are making friends.
