Hi Everyone! I’m currently a Junior in the BFA Acting Class of 2021 with two minors, one in Musical Theatre and one in Arts and Cultural Management, at Michigan State University. There isn’t a lot of information on here about our program and what we offer, so I thought I would come on here and offer my perspective and account as a place for any questions anyone might have! I have only good things to say about Michigan State’s acting program and the learning environment they foster. I think anyone considering auditioning for schools, should consider MSU as a great option! Our acting program has required courses students have to take, including acting, movement, voice, and theatre history classes. But one of my favorite parts of this program is that there is a lot of freedom for individuality and encouragement to cultivate your major to be as unique to you as an artist as possible. For example, my entire class is full of acting majors, but everyone has specific artistic interests that we are encouraged to explore and use to become unique artists. So we are offered Shakespeare and Classical acting training, Film/Media Acting training, Auditioning training, Improv training, Musical Theatre private lessons, Musical Theatre ensemble, duet, and solo classes, as well as event planning and marketing classes for Arts and Cultural Management. This is all in addition to the required acting classes that are already helping us grow. This in turn, creates a program of very diverse and well-rounded actors. In terms of class size, it varies from year to year. Some class sizes are bigger than others and it really depends on how many people they are looking to take that given year. If anyone is auditioning this year, how has it gone for you and if you haven’t auditioned yet, what are you most excited for?
I have loved my three years at MSU and would highly recommend auditioning for our program for any interested acting students out there! If there are any questions I can answer, please don’t hesitate to ask! Go Green!
