current dance major wants to transfer for broadcasting

My daughter is sophmore BFA dance major in a conservatory program and seriously considering transferring to Montclair as a broadcasting major/dance minor. She has always been interested in broadcasting/tv work and feels that she can keep up with her dance as a minor and supplement with classes in Manhattan.

Her program of study is obviously heavy in dance and dance related classes but she also is following the required course load of liberal arts/core gen ed courses. Her GPA is a 3.7 and her grades in dance and academic courses have all been A's. However unlike a typical transfer student whose course study has all been academic courses she has been more heavily weighted in the performing arts studies. Will this be a problem for her as a transfer student into the broadcasting major as based on the info on the website it seems to be a competitive program to get into, ie interview, etc.

She is locked into a apartment rental for this school year so is looking to transfer for Fall 2010. In addition to her college transcript will she also need to provide her HS transcript and SAT/ACT scores. Should she try to meet with an admissions advisor when she is home the week of Thanksgiving (we live nearby and she has the entire week of Thanksgiving off of school).

Thanks.

I’m glad that your daughter is interested in transferring to Montclair State University! Generally, the University is liberal with the number of credits that we can accept from another school, however, a full credit evaluation will be available to the student within 10 days of receiving an acceptance letter. This evaluation allows the student to not only see how many credits have transferred, but also what General Education and other academic major requirements have been fulfilled.

A transfer student only needs to submit their official high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores if they have earned 24 credits or less. If she would like to meet with an Admissions Counselor, she can just call the Undergraduate Admissions office at 973-655-4444 and set up an appointment. I hope this information is helpful!
