Current & former Exonians..

..What is your typical schedule?

The time you..

Wakeup:

Go to class:

Are out of classes:

Begin athletics/PE:

Finish athletics/PE:

Dinner:

Finish Dinner:

(I assume this is homework time...how many hours total?)

Go to Bed:

Homework assignments (and time spent) for...
Math (precalculus and up):
English (non-elective):
Science (spec. Physics 200 series):
Elective History/Philosophy (God and Politics in Contemporary America, etc.):
Art (ie, ceramics):
Elective music (ie, African Drumming):

The standards for a paper...

Now, I just want an idea. Right now, I imagine that the teacher scans every millimeter of the page, looking for the slightest indication of any fault or error or lack of knowledge... How far off am I? Can you please find an example of a paper that would receive an A at Exeter? Perhaps one of yours (just a sample)? Is it more about minutiae of grammar (precise technicalities that even the most eloquent writers could give a **** about), or about originality and depth of thought?

How many papers per week/trimester? For each class (science, history, philosophy, english)?

cmonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn! ! ! ! ! !

Maybe it'd be better to just find out some of this upon arrival? Leaves something to look forward to.

Yeah, but this isn't stuff one wants to look forward to.. It's stuff one might want to be prepared for.. I'm looking forward to my dorm, my roommate, things to do for fun, etc.. not Hw.

any advice..i would like to be prepared.

The time you..

Wakeup: 7:30 am if I had finished hw the night before (if not... varies)
Go to class: 7:55 am
Are out of classes: 6 pm

(This is all available on the daily schedule btw)

Begin athletics/PE: depends on the term, usually 1:30 pm
Finish athletics/PE: depends on team/club sport. Team: 3:15, club: 2:20 pm
Dinner: 6 pm
Finish Dinner: 6:30 pm
(I assume this is homework time...how many hours total?)
No, not hw time... time for club meetings! yayy and hanging out with friends, practicing cello, etc
Go to Bed: 1 am

Homework assignments (and time spent) for...
Math (precalculus and up): 15 minutes, usually people spend 45 minutes though
English (non-elective): 1 hr
Science (spec. Physics 200 series): 1 hr or more
Elective History/Philosophy (God and Politics in Contemporary America, etc.): 1-2 hours
Art (ie, ceramics): no idea depends how quickly you work
Elective music (ie, African Drumming): depends how dedicated you are. The classes are shown on the daily schedule

The standards for a paper...
you need to have good writing and show depth in thought. I usually get A-/A's on my english papers but upper yr english is different from lower yr english

How many papers per week/trimester? For each class (science, history, philosophy, english)?
1 per 3-4 weeks? this is for each class except you don't really have papers in science... unless you mean lab reports. Lab reports-- depends on which science. physics is like... one every week?, but I never took the 200's, so it could be different

mm my schedule was similar to tuesday's

Wakeup: 7:30-7:45ish, depending on how many snoozes i need :]

Go to class: 8

Are out of classes: 6
(mind you, most kids usually have 4-5 classes a day + 2 blocks for sports out of the 8 block day, plus the small breaks between certain blocks, so on average you have 1-2hr of free time during the day... but this will vary greatly on your age/classes, as in new students will almost always have the least amount of free time)
athletics/PE: depends, either 8am-10am, 1:30-3:30, or 4-6. classes can be before and/or after athletics.

Dinner: 6-6:30

after dinner, like sae said, there are club meetings/musical obligations (orchestra, band, etc... which is 7:45-8ish) if you have them... otherwise, yes, homework time~

(I assume this is homework time...how many hours total?)

Go to Bed: lol for me, 10:30-12:30pm, usually 11pm, varying on workload/laziness ^.^

yeah, to get an A in english/history requires much... effort. the average teacher will look for articulacy, and a solid control of the accumulated knowledge. mm... and yeah, teachers are much more lenient on a student's first terms... lol so any A's i may have received early in the year may seem not so worthy if i were to put them on cc... ^.^

of papers per term really depends on the teacher... my first term of english i had something like 15 papers, while spring term i had something like 3 or 4... haha. it usually ranges from 1-2 a week [rough drafts, not finished products] to 1 [finished product] every 3 weeks, i think.

lol but tommeister's right, there's no real way to foresee your own schedule, because the schedules differ greatly between everybody

Does anyone know what the Physics 20X course is? I thought that preps were supposed to be put in the 100 series course (for physics), but I was put into the 20X course.

Did you take a placement test? You might've done well enough on the placement test to advance to the next level of physics classes.

No I didn't. Maybe it's because of my math placement...?

Hmmm....it's a mystery!

hahahahahahha...

niceee redpride!! haha yeah that means you're in the most accelerated course available to preps :P

may i ask what your math placement was? that was probably the biggest factor in their decision [maybe only factor? lol]

umm you'll probably be placed in classes with lowers... unless there were enough preps who made 20x. i knew of a couple kids last year who were in it.

if it's too much for you [which happens fairly often], you'll be moved down to the normal prep physics course.. but then starting winter term, there is another 'accelerated' physics course for preps [208+209], that moves at a faster pace than 100s but slightly not as much depth as 200s.

200 phys is mainly for what class.. uppers? lowers? seniors? and is it good enough to do well on the AP's (Phys B.. dunno)?

im in like a special transition three class with mr. feng i think.
so... is the 200 physics like a lot harder than the normal 100s?
do u have a lot more homework?

OMG you are in t3x!!!
that's amazing
it's an interesting class ;)

what math did you do last school year?

Lucky! Mr. Feng's supposed to be reaaaalllly good. (Third smartest man in China at one time?)

i'm in a transition.. which one does feng teach?

Hiii, I'm going to be a prep next year at Exeter, and I got put in Physics 20P? Is that the same thing as 20X?

Oh, and what math are you taking RedPride? :]

tuesdayair:i did geometry in eighth grade. how much work is there in the math T3X and the physics 20X, tuesday? a lot more than normal?
rebekke: im taking T3X math. its a special transition three class. what math class are you taking?
blairt: u should call the dean of students office to find out, or email the head of math, ms. kemp.

I don't think Mr. Feng teaches other transition courses...I could be wrong, though.

t3x... a lot of work at first, but you get used to it. You get like 3 times as much work as other math classes though. Physics 20x, I have no idea-- i never did 100's or 200's.
