Current grades for UC transfer advice?

Hi!

Im currently attending a CCC and trying to transfer to UC Irvine for mechanical engineering.

My first year of college I was able to maintain a 3.96 GPA. Took a lot of GE's and pretty much knocked all of the ones I needed out of the way. I didn't really know what I wanted to major in my first year, but towards the end decided I enjoyed math and physics in particular.
Starting my second year is when things started to change a little as level of difficulty increased with classes. Without trying to make excuses, from last fall, to the end of summer session this quarter, I have 1 F in Chem 1, 1 F in a math class which I replaced with an A, and this summer am probably going to end with an F in Calc . On top of this I have 4 W's (which people seem to say I shouldn't be worried about.) All of this took place within my second year but I'm learning how to build my study habits up.

3 F’s (one replaced with an A so far)
4 W’s

I still have two more years at my CCC since there's a ton of classes I still need to take...So my main concern isn't "can I do it" but my question is after I replace my F's and if I keep my grades looking better my next two years, do I still have a good shot at getting into the UC I want to get into? Or any CSU's? Or anything? Did this year kill my chances at any UC engineering program? I'm kind of in a slump looking at my academic standing right now. It feels like I'm constantly standing on an edge. Thanks for anything in advance.

Because of TAG and the CSU local preference rules, many CSUs are tougher transfer targets than mid range UCs. Replace the other 2 Fs and follow the TAG program for your target school to the letter. Most are looking for a 3.2-3.4 which should be pretty doable or, you are in the wrong major.
Good luck

engineering classes are heavily math-based. You need 2 years of calculus just to be able to learn the math they teach you in them. This next school year you might want to think about whether this is what you really want and whether it is a fit for you.

As long as you replace those fails, and have above a 3.4 GPA you are practically guaranteed admission to UCI. Don’t lose hope. A lot of people have rough spots in their transcripts and still go on to great schools. I myself have had 3 F’s and a few W’s which I’m not proud of, but I’m making sure to get to replace them all. I still have hope transfer to some pretty good schools.
