Current Merit Money for High Stats? [prospective high school teacher]

If she earns an AP 5 and finds the college’s old calculus final exams easy, repeating regular calculus is likely to be a waste of time (though an honors calculus course with more emphasis on proofs and theory may be worthwhile).

Many math departments have a proof techniques course offered to sophomore-level math majors in preparation for proof and theory focused upper level math courses. These types of courses may be the more important preparation for upper level math courses than calculus.

Grand Valley is super popular among Illinois students. Stats would have you paying $11k a year as NMF or 13k just with stats alone. They are a good school for education majors.

It’s in Allendale, Michigan, which is pretty close to Grand Rapids.

Is she even interested in trying for full ride scholarships at higher rated schools? If so, I think she could be competitive. If not, I completely understand. It won’t matter for teaching, but the level of classes is often deeper than some of the typical teacher colleges if learning is her passion.

Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, U Miami (FL), Vanderbilt, U Rochester come immediately to mind as having them - or at least they did last I knew. I’m positive there are more.

It’s often on here that Washington & Lee has good scholarships too.

Is there a period in history that your daughter has a particular interest in? Also, assuming all schools meet your budget, what kind of a school would your daughter like? What size? Big fan of school sports or Greek life? Rural, suburban, or rural? Are there any types of experiences she’d like to have? Is there a particular distance from home (minimum or maximum)? Every option in the world might not be open, but knowing more might help to narrow down the search a bit as I suspect that she may have many options.

I will say that with your D’s stats (presume her GPA is comparable to her SAT score) that she would definitely hit your budget at Louisiana-Lafayette, quite possibly with a full ride. (She’d get room & board, at least $2400 off in-state tuition, and an on-campus job…and I’d bet they’d throw in the rest of in-state tuition for her, too.)

I believe a very bright student from our local high school got huge merit at Carthage in Wisconsin. In addition to undergrad degrees, they offer a master’s in education.

@tsbna44 gave you a great list for publics and a couple of flagship match privates, and a few privates have been mentioned already.

But, a few other places you might want to consider are:

I’d also check out Goucher and Juniata as well, running their NPCs and inquiring further with their admissions department if interested.

Obviously there’s no guarantee with several of these, but I think your daughter would stand a very good chance at many.
