Thank you grad052012!! I really really appreciate your concise reply!! It definitely helped me in my decision! :)

Hello, I’m currently writing my admission essays for NYU. I’ve pretty much have a good idea what to write for the last two essays. But the first essay, “Why NYU”, is leaving me somewhat stumped.

Heres the basis of my essays. Im currently in the Marine Corps, and am writing about how the Marine Corps turned me into a leader. But im having trouble connecting this to the question, Why NYU. I dont want to just outright answer why NYU, because it would seem like im just flattering them.

I could write how I want to become a leader in Business or something, but theres still the “Why NYU” factor, and not making it sound like im kissing their asses.

I pretty much have half the essay done, but not sure if I should just scrap it and pick a different topic for “Why NYU”. If you’re interested, care to read what I have so far?

I suggest choosing a specific department, aspect, or even professor/class to write about. They don’t want to hear the cliche response of, “in the city, lots of opportunities, etc.” They would much rather prefer one specific thing for you to focus on and elaborate on it.

sorry if this has been asked already, but what were the easiest classes (easy As) you’ve taken over the past 2 years? are there any classes you regret taking because they were GPA killers?

Do you know what the 75% for the sat is for Stern? I can’t seem to find it anywhere. Also, how important is it to take subject tests?

Hello, Hellodocks! I have been following your thread for quite some time and I have to say, thanks for all the information! I recently transferred to Stern from CAS (I will be a sophomore for fall '12) and I have a couple questions for you. I’m also interested in concentrating in Finance and Marketing. Unfortunately, due to my athletic schedule, I had to be weary of what classes I could take because of the practice times. As you know, registration is always hectic, and classes fill up easily (particularly the required ones). As a result, I’m taking FA with Jung, Intro the Marketing with Hershfield, Competitive Analysis with Cabral, and a language elective.

What can you tell me about these three stern courses? For instance, I read on the syllabus that Competitive Analysis is generally geared towards Juniors and Seniors - is it out of the realm of possibility for me to take it?

Have a great summer!

Would you recommend taking Stat & Regression in the fall and Micro in the spring or vice-versa?

Hello! I will be a freshman this fall. I have some questions for you. Do you recommend to take Microeconomics and Statistics together in the same semester?

There are two courses for Statistics:Statistics for Business Control and Regression/Forecasting Models (STAT-UB 103; 6 units), OR Statistics for Business Control (STAT-UB 1; 4 units). Which one is better to take?

Thank you.

Is there a new policy for taking Calculus for this year? It looks like if you have a 4 or 5 on BC Calculus, you don’t have to take Calculus I or higher level math. Is it better to take Calculus I even though I have a 5 on BC? If I take Calculus I in fall, do I have to take Calculus II in spring? Is it true that Stern students have to complete only one Calculus course while at Stern? Thank you.
