Current Student @ AU... ready to answer Qs

ElCartero, I visited AU this summer and let me tell you, the girls not only not that great, they are so bad you might end up wanting that 40%...

bill it may seem like you need a higher perscription on your glasses... becuase the women at AU are amazing... (myself included of course)

SPA rocks... luv it (i'm a CLEG & Poli Sci major)

...AU is amazing... AU is the best... COME!!! <3

How much is the Dean's Scholarship!!??!

dean's scholarship slighty varies i believe but mine was 18000 a year....

mine was 15k (deans scholarship)

I just got into AU in SPA and I'm having trouble getting my financial aid rep. Any suugestions?

...again what u guys have 2 remember is that i am a student @ AU... i don't work for AU... and in some cases you may have more knowlege then i do in some situations.

Again you just have to keep calling AU, till u get a hold of your financial aid rep. There isn't much i can tell/ help u in that dept

I got into the School of Public Service. There wasnt a place on the common app to put what schools to apply to. I just emailed them I was interested in SPS and SIS. I really wanted SIS, but is therer a real difference between the schools @ American. Is it easy to transfer??
Also, what do the kids in the honors program do?
Is the campus more liberal/conservative?
and another thing...how many close freinds do you have as a student at American? just something I am asking people from schools I got into. I know it is completely arbritrary, but I like numbers. Thanks

hey hi,

well SPA and SIS are very closely realted. In addition with gen eds and requirements.. like they are very similar.

honors program... don't know.. not in it

campus is liberal, like more colleges... but we do have a strong conservative presence

close friends... well thats kinda perfect. I'm greek, so i have a whole group of girls... and i feel close 2 my pledge class. Outside of that... like my "group" consists of my ultimate best friend for life (who i'm living w/ next year) and 2 other guys (my 2 gay best friends), and my other non-gay guy best friend.l So in total i'm tight w/ 4 people. My ultimate best friend though... like we are NEVER apart.... we're like the same person.. i luv it... hehe... and 3 other guys... I've done well in the friend dept. But its easy becuase the people @ AU are generally nice people. Esp in the beginning of the year... like people WANT friends... so its easy 2 make. Plus facebook is a good tool. I best my ultimate best friend via facebook,

Alyssa-
I'm really confused. I just put in my deposit for housing etc and made my choices, but I'm confused about the roomate thing. Aren't we supposed to fill out some kind of form about ourselves so that they pair us with someone kind of similar to ourselves? I didn't see any kind of form like that on my portal so I was just wondering if you knew.

roomie situation i believe happends later. AU actually don't even have a big list of questions... for me they asked me:

-Do you want to live on the honars floor (if you apply for it)

-Do you smoke

-Do you want to live on the Community Service floor

-Do you want to live on the all female floor...

...thats it. You'll prob get that later though.. once they figure out how many people are coming and what halls they have chosen to live in.

But you find out like mid june who your living w/... don't work babe... it will all work out :)

Best dorm to stay in?

ElCartero: depends on what type of a person you are:

South:

Anderson:
-love people & loud noise. This is the craziest of all the dorms. These people like 2 party and have a good time. On the s. side of AU, this is the BIGGEST (almost twice as big as Letts)

Letts
-love to party, but also like 2 sleep. Less people, so it is less dirty. Letts has more draw space. People here are more close knit because there is less people on each dorm.
-(i'm living in Letts again btw)

Cent
-can't live here till a soph, jr, or snr. 4 people in a suite living style: you guys SHARE a bathroom. In every other halls, you have to leave your room to go to the bathroom/ take a shower

...remember if you live on s. side (no matter what hall) you can swipe in, either the letts side or and/ cent side. On north side you can't. If you live in Leonard, you can only swipe in for the leonard dorm. If you live in Leonard, and have a friend who lives in Hughes, then they have to come down and claim you.

North:

Len: multicultural dorm. VERY small amt of people on each floor, but they are all really tight. Its like weird... but kinda cool, that like people in len, like on each floor, like travel together and take like lil trips together. Like on Letts, i barely know anyone on my floor.
Len, quiet.. people like sleep

McDowell:
-on the website they claim that its like "where people on sport teams live" but that doesn't seem true at all, becuase the guys soccer team lives on the 2nd floor on and and the girls soccer team lives on the 1st floor of letts... anyway yeah... McDowell... people like 2 be quite.... a friend of mine lives there, she claimes that people really aren't that friendly... idk... thats just her.

Hughes
closest to the s. side of campus, so we like 2 say that these people are "the coolest of the n. siders" haha becuase they are closets to the s. side of campus. Hughes has pretty big dorms, nice clean...

all in all: if you interested in meeting people who like to party....

go Anderson

if you like people who party, but are not like wild, like pretty chill people

go letts

if you want to study and focus, and not worry about partying:

go len

if you want to study, but interested in a bit of fun:

go Hughes or McDowell

...again it depends on the type of person u are... etc: and you will meet people who don't fit these molds at all. A friend of mine, sits in his room ALL DAY and studies... she doesn't go out... doesn't party... he lives in Letts. So its really all relative. You could live in McDowell, and your roomie can be REALLY into partying... you can live in And and meet someone into studying.

good luck...

-alyssa

Wow, thank you for that amazingly indepth guide to the dorms. I'm liking the way Letts sounds, especially with it having a fitness center.

hotpinkprep88: also forgot to mention about the guys @ AU... not gunna lie... but yeah i hooked up w/ a guy during welcome week i met becuase of CC... who ended up going 2 AU lol :p

haha awesome
what's cc though?

umm... whats your posting on now... college confidential...

haha wow i feel stupid, way to not see the obvious hah

haha np my dear... we all have our blond moments :)

yeah heh my friends like to joke about my blonde moments because i was blonde til i was 7. anyways...

alyssa:
another sorority question, are the sororities like national ones or just local/private ones?
