Hoping any Auburn current students and/or alum can help shed some light on this. My little sister would like to attend Auburn, but paying the out-of-state pricetag is going to be a rather large burden. The folks at the financial aid office sold her and my mother on the idea that if she earns excellent grades her first semester, she’ll have institutional merit scholarships available to help cover the extra out-of-state costs.
How much of this is grounded in reality? My own personal experience is that merit based scholarships are usually reserved for incoming freshman, and that scholarship money left over for current students is limited and HYPER competitive. Is Auburn different? Any experience with this?
I should note that we’re heavily banking on her receiving some sort of scholarship money as a student. At the current out-of-state price tag, the most we could finance is a year. Definitely not all four. Personally I’d rather her stay in-state (Texas), but she’s heavily sold on attending Auburn. That said, any thoughts/advice?
I’d email the admissions office and the scholarship folks - the large scholarships are for incoming freshman. One of my sons best friends and roommate in the fall is from Texas - actually I’m from Texas too. Good luck - hope you can make it work. She’ll love Auburn - War Eagle!
My son received a small departmental scholarship on top of his full tuition scholarship. This was after freshman year. It would not be enough to offset OOS tuition though. Auburn usually has decent OOS scholarships.
