Current student willing to answer questions!

helpingmom,
you are correct, sorry for the mistake. I looked in my student bulletin and there are 18 required credits of theology, philosophy, and ethics. The honors program (which I am in) only requires 6. The honors program has less required core requirements; however, the classes require more work. Like I said before, undecided freshmen will still be fine with the core requirements because the core requires the student to take a class in virtually every main academic subject. Thus when the student figures out what they want to major in they will likely have a few of the prerequisite courses out of the way.

Hey Pccool52,

My girlfriend and I are planning to attend one of the Admitted student days and we've read the basic details Creighton gave us about the itinerary and are excited to go. What was your experience if you've went to any of the admitted students days? Do you know if the admitted student days are different from Freshman Orientation in the summer? Thanks a lot

jt624,

Sorry, can't help you with this one. I never went to admitted student days. I did go to Freshmen Orientation which was good, and I really don't know how they differ.

That's ok :)
Thank you for your help anyways. When is Creighton on Spring break?

We are on spring break after next week (week of March 9th). I can't wait!

How are the bathrooms in Creighton's dorms?

I've just seen Kiewit's; there not bad, not great either, just decent. Swanson hall's bathrooms are excellent though, private bathroom, shower, sink area.

Hey Pccool52, Where are your favorite places to hang out at Creighton?

Tough question, depends on the situation.
Most of the time, I'm just chillin on my floors lobby area or in my dorm room.
If I wanna play some sports with friends, I go to KFC in the winter to play bball or jesuit gardens to throw the frisbee when its warm outside.
If I need to study, I study in my dorm room or the library.
If its warm outside and its the weekend, the old market is always fun.
If it's game night, then I'm hanging at the Qwest Center, cheering for the Jays!

Thanks for the insight Pccool, I'll keep these places in mind when I visit Creighton again for Admitted students day on April 20th! I've only been to a few places for the main tour like Harper Center, some of the science buildings, Jesuit gardens and a dorm (can't remember which one) I'm really excited for future BB games since I've heard so much about them : )

How was your experience for your first spring break at Creighton? I hear that a lot of Creighton students go on community service trips around the country. Do a lot of students generally go on such trips, stay on campus to do their own activities, or do people just generally go back home to visit families. I'm sure they do all three, but I wanted to hear from your perspective. : )

Most people go home for spring break, which is what I did. A lot of people do go on service trips. I will probably go on one next year or Junior year. Some people go on vacation somewhere and some stay at Creighton. All the people that I knew that stayed at Creighton had to be here. I wouldn't recommend stay at Creighton for spring break unless you had to.

Do you know anything about history major. I do like history. But i Know Creighton's history is not famous. so I am a little worried about its teaching quality. Also, I am worrid about the job or opporyunities of internship. And I know the library is not 24 hours, where will students stay if they have to stay late to study. Do you have any ideas about those things

So far I've taken two classes taught by history teachers. Both of them were great people and knew a lot about the subject matter. Because there are not many history majors, history major students get a lot of attention from professors; so that's a plus. Are you talking about jobs on campus? As for getting internships, I imagine the career center does a fine job helping students find internships. I don't know much about them yet as I haven't attempted to get one. The library is open till midnight on weekdays. If you still need to study past midnight you can do that either in your dorm room or in one of the dorm lobbies.

Thanks Pccool52
I mean if I did that in the dorm room, will it affect my roommates. You know, the light of the lamp or some sound of pc. And will the dorm lobbies be crowded. Have they had air conditioner? How about the facilities?

well, it depends on your roommate. Some may not care, some might. If its really late the lobbies will not be busy. Some lobbies are never busy, some are. I know I'm being kind of ambiguous, but it's the truth.

Do you have any experience with, or know what the Greek Scene is like on campus? Like their involvements, advantages, disadvantages? Do you have friends in the Greek system. I'm thinking of possibly pledging sometime during my four years but I still don't know a lot about it, and wanted to get your perspective.

First, the Greek life is pretty popular at creighton. I want to say about one quarter of the student population is Greek, but don’t quote me on that. That said, a lot of my friends rushed but not many actually joined a frat in the end. I personally did not rush, mainly because I’ve found a good group of friends and I’m not really a big party person. Not all of the fraternities and sororities are big on partying/drinking however. All of them complete service in the community regularly which is good. In the end, if you are considering joining Greek life, it doesn’t hurt to rush.

Thanks for giving me your perspective of the Greek life at Creighton Pccool, and thanks also for answering my questions in the past couple of months, about different experiences at Creighton. I’ll finally be able to see Creighton again in week so I’m excited for that. How are you handling 2nd semester of your freshmen year? Do you have tips or intriguing insights you’d like to share for incoming freshmen such as myself? :)

JT624, my 2nd semester is going well so far, thanks for asking. It’s actually hard to believe that there are only 4 more weeks of school left! As for some tips for freshmen, I can think of a couple off the top of my head. For the meal plan, do 15 meals per week 1st semester; it’s been perfect for me so far and many of my friends that do the 19 meals per week end up having some left. Also, when you register for classes, check ratemyprofessors.com to get some advice on which professors to take. Also, avoid registering for early classes, like 8:30 or earlier. It’s nice to be able to sleep in a little if you stayed up late the night prior for what ever reason.
