Time to consider holiday travel plans. Harvard has finals after the Christmas break and there is reading period right after the break before the finals. How many people actually study during the Christmas break? Is Reading period sufficient in most cases for preparing the finals?

Reading period should be sufficient for preparing for the finals. However, lots of students have papers that are due at the end of reading period. Many students use the Christmas break to do work on those papers.
This is the last year that finals will come after the Crhistmas break.

As marite said, this is the last year this schedule will be in place (although I don't really mind it that much). Nobody I know studies during break from what they say (although who knows if someone is a closet-studier! haha). I think people generally wait for reading period--you have like 10 days with no classes (except some language sections meet) and minimal extracurriculars to do nothing but wake up and do work. I personally did absolutely nothing during break and then did all of my papers and studying during reading period, and I was completely fine.
