Hello, I was admitted EA to Case this month, and the estimated financial aid package I was given was ridiculously generous. I was given $31K in merit aid and enough in grants to make going to Case free. However, I’ve heard tales of schools giving prospective freshman lots of aid only to decrease aid after the first year. Since the combined merit aid and grants completely takes care of my parents’ EFC, is it possible that after the first year, Case would decrease the aid they give me and make my parents pay the full EFC? How has your financial aid package changed for subsequent years, if at all? Thanks so much!
I have payed less as time went on, however, my efc has dropped a bit. I have heard of what your saying, but I don’t expect your cost to change much over the 4 years assuming your efc is similar. The cost of Case rises about 2-3k a year, so people with higher efc’s tend to get screwed over by this. Poorer students tend not to be effected. My efc is ~2k if this helps.
Your merit based grants will not be decreased and the need based aid will not change unless your family’s financial situation changes. Keep in mind tuition increases yearly while your aid package will not.
Thank you for your replies! I’m definitely considering Case, and it’s pretty high on my list because of the generous aid, so it’s nice to know that that the aid package should change too much
@mndt38 congrats on the great aid. Did your aid package include the standard subsidized and unsubsidized loans? We are looking at those on most of our DD packages. Thanks
