I originally posted this in the Davis forum, but this forum would probably make more sense:

I'm currently a freshmen at UCSB. Certain personal reasons have caused a need for me to move closer to home next year. While I am not completely opposed to going to community college, I would really like to continue going to a UC. UC Davis, being the one of the closest UCs to me, would be ideal for this situation, as I can stay relatively close to home (1 hour vs. 6 hours) but still go to a school of equal academic status. Right now, I am an Environmental Studies major, but I am still unsure of that. I've been succeeding academically so far, I got a 3.9 last quarter taking relatively challenging courses (Chem+Lab, Calc II, Enviro Studies 1, and a seminar). In addition, I have enough AP credits that I would be a Junior by the end of this year.

So, I was wondering if there was anyone I could contact about possibly switching schools, or if anyone knows anything about this. ANY help would be greatly appreciated.

i was in your position 2 years ago. I was a freshman at UCSB and dropped out to goto CCC and i now goto Berkeley. I don’t think there’s anyway you can transfer to davis next year unless you applied for winter quarter. Your best option in terms of costs and transfer success would be to withdraw from ucsb and goto a community college close to home and just transfer to the UC that you want to goto.

There really isn’t any type of program the UC’s offer to accommodate students like that. Your only real choice is actually having to apply to UC Davis as a transfer student or attending a CC.

DrAhumada, this is False!
I did exactly this: I entered UCSB out of HS, and needed to transfer to Davis to be closer to home. I left UCSB after 1 quarter and transferred to Davis.

The UC DOES have a procedure precisely for students have have personal/family reasons they need to change UC’s.

If you reply/PM with questions, I’ll try to be as much help as I can, but it’s hard to remember everything since this was 3 years ago.

In short, I met with my counselor at UCSB, declared PELP (planned educational leave program), and then contacted UCD. I simply told them that I have family issues that require me to be closer to home, and they put me through a simple procedure designed specifically for that case.
