Current undergrad taking questions!

how do we designate “lab” for Bio 112 and Bio 113? The course description does not state anything about lab work.

Lab is a required for BIO 112-113. Lab is a separate 1 credit course and you will receive a separate grade for it.

When you register for BIO 112, you’ll be told to add BIO 112L (lab)to your courselist. You will not be allowed to enroll in BIO 112 without a concurrent enrollment in BIO 112L.

BIO 112 also has a required recitation (workshop/study group/review/whatever they’re calling it this year) which you will sign up for during the first week of class.

Bio lab has 2 parts—a weekly lecture plus 3-4 hours of actual laboratory work.

Ditto for CHEM 131-132 and any course that has a required lab.

I transferred to UR this past semester (spring 2011) and was able to live on campus. Your experience might be very different though, because there could be very different numbers of both transfers and housing spaces in fall. Housing isn’t guaranteed for transfers, and if you are offered housing it might not be your top choice. If you are offered housing, I’d try to take it – I thought it made it easier to meet people and get involved on campus.

Hey guys,
I was wondering what the most stimulating/interesting cluster was that you guys took in social sciences and humanities. Any recommendations?

I also have a question, i was pre-registering and creating my schedule and im curious if 10 minutes is enough tike between a class. In particular i wanted to know if 10 minutes is enough time to get from the hutch building to the hoyt? The issue is that i dont like waking up early so i want to choose a class at 11 but it will end 10 minutes before my next class. Right now its at 9 and ends at 9:50 and would prefer it be at 11 but then thats only a 10 minutes break between class instead of 2 hours. What should i do?

10 minutes will be fine!

Hutchinson to Hoyt is maybe 5 minutes walking pretty darned slow.

Thanks, of all the freshmen dorms, which is the best? Gilbert, hoeing, tiernen, or sue b?

Personal preference whether you want to be on the Quad or in Sue B.

No real major differences among the Quad dorms. (Rooms in Gilbert are HUGE, though…)

Sue B has a dining hall on the first floor.

All the dorms are fine. Really.

I chose gilbert based on the size of the room, how far is it a walk to douglass, like a 5 minute walk?

More like 2 to 3. Campus is compact.

I was curious as to what the average financial aid package is for u of r students, in particular freshmen students counting in all loans and grants of course

So im creating my schedule and im wondering what the suggested time should be for breaks in between classes?

It depends on the courses you take, where they are, and your personal approach to classes. I have friends who prefer to take their classes with a couple hours in between each class if they can. I personally prefer to have as many classes on the same day as possible. Last semester I had back-to-back classes (2 on M/W, 2 on T/Th) with only a 10 minute gap between them, and I was perfectly ok with that because I could do all my course-attending in one chunk, go back to my dorm and do the work, and then have some free time, all in concrete blocks. I find that if I have a class in the morning, then on in early afternoon, then one later, I’m trotting around too much from class to dorm or library then back and I can’t focus as well on getting things done. But if you prefer that kind of thing, then try to build your schedule around that; don’t take 3 classes in a row if you know you’ll hate that.

So i need to complete the uhs application for my insurance coverage and im wondering if i can use my current insurance provider at uhs and go there without paying the annual fee of 1500 dollars or so, or does uhs not accept any insurance. I use excellus bluecross by the way?

hey guys,
can one make it to Hutchinson from Morey in 10 minutes?

That’s a 5 minute walk at most, you’ll have no problem getting from one class to another on the River Campus.

Garrry, there is a recent thread about health insurance. You pay a health fee no matter what and that gets you doctor visits. If you need lab work, that goes to your insurer. The issue with your insurance is whether you are in their service area or not. If you live in Wisconsin, your insurer’s service area is likely just Wisconsin. If you live in New York, it is likely NY. That is defined at the front of your policy or you can call and ask.

If you are out of the service area, you still get so-called emergency and urgent care coverage. Emergency is kind of obvious. Urgent care means you can go to the doctor if you’re sick and have the tests you need and then you may need to argue with your insurer to get it to pay, especially for follow-ups. That’s the sorry state of health insurance.
