Currently a junior and thinking about colleges, what are some of my chances for these schools

  • 3.9 GPA Unweighted
  • Taking ACT in April but my predicted score is around 27 - 30, 26 baseline haven't started studying
  • No AP Classes (But i'm in a program called running start where I go to college to get my diploma)
  • I did skip a grade in math and am currently taking the equivolence of AP Calc
  • Planning to take AP Gov senior year
  • 140 hours of community service (Got an award)
  • President of a club
  • Track and field
  • In JSA club
  • In a leadership program where we do various things such as fundraising
  • Planning to major in CS Schools I'm thinking about
  • UC schools (I don't live in Cali so it might be harder)
  • UIUC
  • UW Seattle (My top choice, instate)
  • Purdue University
  • UT Austin
  • UMass (Main Campus)
  • UW Madison (Wisconsin not washington)
  • Penn State
  • NYU
  • And any other recommendations for schools you can give me based on schools for my major that are a good match! Thanks in advance!

Bump

Get a 30 on ACT and you should have a shot with almost all of these schools. NYU and the upper UC’s I can’t be sure about, as well as some others. This being said, I would be concerned about lacking AP’s though as they demonstrate that you are capable of keeping up with a tougher curriculum. This is the one thing that makes me question your stats.

UC Schools: Depends on the department, since you lack AP’s the highest that I could consider is UC:San Diego.

UIUC: High Match/low reach

UW Seattle: low reach

Perdue: Match

UT: Austin: high Match

UMass Amherst: Match (CS is selective here so it could be tougher)

UW Maddison: high Match

Penn State: Low reach

NYU: Reach (Unless you have $$$ and can afford to not apply for aid…then Match)

PS- A lot hinges on you ACT and taking a few AP classes senior year! You will gain huge brownie points and have a good shot at the top schools her considering you 1- Study for ACT and get a good score (30+ for NYU) 2- Take several AP’s senior year and work you ass off and get A’s. This would help a ton.

Does doing college full time replace the need for AP classes?

@halycon77

Seeing your list GTech comes to mind. You have a great GPA try to get 30 or thereabout and you will be set.

UIUC-Low Reach
UW Seattle- Match
Purdue- Low Match
UT Austin- High Match
UW Madison- Match
UMass- High Match
Penn State- High Match
NYU-Reach

Depending on the UC. Good chance at UCSF, UCSB, and UCSC

@Emilynipahc: UCSF is a graduate school, no undergrad admissions unless that was a typo for UCSD.

@HuskiesFan5818: Since you are OOS for the Caifornia UC’s, can you pay the $55K/year price tag with little to no financial or merit aid available? If you can, then you need to calculate your UC GPA:

http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

As an OOS applicant, only AP/IB and DE courses 10-11th grade count for the extra honors points. Your unweighted GPA looks competitive. If your target ACT is around 27-30, that should get you into UCR/UCSC/UCSB and may get you into UCSB/UCI and UCD. If 30+, then UCSD/UCB/UCLA could be possibilities. Sorry not well versed on the rest of the schools on your list. Good luck
