curve for chem 1a

is there a curve for chem 1a...wat did u guys think of the third midterm

I heard that the curve is very slight; they lower the % for an A or B by 1 or 2% so you shouldn’t really rely on it. As for the third midterm, I didn’t think it was that bad. I though I got all the free response questions right but apparently I didn’t, so maybe I didn’t go as in depth as they wanted me to. I though the multiple choice was harder, but doable. Hopefully I did well on it.

Depends on how the class, as a whole, does on the final. Last fall the cutoffs for grades were lowered by like around 5% or more since practically everybody did badly on the final…and I mean BADLY. I heard a lot of cussing when I was leaving the testing room.

No way the cutoff was lowered 5% for the A though. I went from a 94% in the class to a 85-86 and still was only a B. **** that bs they called a final.

crazy…AFTER the final I had like a 79% and my final grade was a B and my friend had a flat C after the final and ended up with a B- as her final grade. Another friend of mine also went from an 86-87% to an A-.

do they lower the % for a C too? the course website says 57% is a C but would they lower that too?

If they lower the cutoff for one grade then they do for all. Meaning if getting an A, the percent needed, is lowered then so does a B, C, D and F so forth is an equal amount. It would be unfair to lower the cutoff for an A, but not everything else. Also if your trying I wouldn’t worry about getting a low grade in Chem 1A because ,unlike 3A, 3B and Bio 1A which actually fail and give out plenty of Cs, Chem 1A has a pretty generous distribution giving a fat chunk of the class (85-90%) some form of A or B with only a tiny amounts of Cs and below. Just live it up because the reality of failing and getting Cs in higher classes is way more real and likely EVEN if you study like crazy. I’m working like 10 times more in Bio 1A/L than I did in Chem 1A and am just praying I can pull some of B.
