This has got to be a FAQ, but I can’t easily find it discussed here (or on CB site). In the case where the student’s parents are married and have custody of the student (so, we’re not talking about a non-custodial Profile here), if the parent is going to do the filling out (because we have all the information) do we do that on the student’s CB account (which for most of us already exists if the student has taken PSAT, SAT, subject tests, etc.)? It looks like that’s the case but I don’t recall it being like that for my older kids (but the last time I filled one out was 2014, so maybe I’ve just forgotten).
Thanks.
I went ahead and did it on the student’s account, but while filling it out I found the FAQ while working on a different question, and it says that you can do it either way. I don’t know if it’s authoritative or not, but it seems well-informed and useful https://www.mefa.org/completing-cssfinancial-aid-profile-check-faqs/
I had the exact same question yesterday when I started the CSS for my second child! I couldn’t remember from the first. Then I dug up the old one, from 2014, and found that my H had started his own account. I believe that if you use the student’s account the student has access to the data, which we did not want.
It’s definitely true that if you use the student’s account, the student has access to the data. I wasn’t really concerned about that.
