Hi there. I need to fill out a CSS profile for my mother who is my noncustodial parent and I need to use my CSS ID to log in to the form. Problem is, what I think is my CSS ID isn’t working and customer support is offline for the weekend, so…When I log in to my CB account and view the profile I already filled out with my dad, at the top right of the page there is a 7-character CBFinAid ID that I figured was the CSS ID. But when I copy and paste that into the field for CSS ID it tells me it’s not.
You are supposed to put the contact info for your non custodial parent on the Profile. That parent does the Profile independent from you and your custodial parent. It is set up this way so that the info from the non-custodial parent cannot be viewed by the custodial parent…and vice versa.
Did you include the contact info for your mom on the Profile?
If not, wait until Monday…and call the college board to figure out what to do.
Is there some reason this can’t wait until tomorrow?
@thumper1 I did that and she received an email, but there were no instructions whatsoever indicating how she was supposed to go about starting a new profile. We ended up just making a new college board account for her and filled it out that way. So I guess my issue is resolved.
The CSS non-custodial profile is specially set up so that the non-custodial parent can submit their information privately without having to share it with their the other parties.
If you put in your mom’s information (email) she will get information as to how to log in on the profile., Even if she is not computer literate, it wlil be a straight forward process.
I have similar question…
Does it mean that the custodial parent can use the kid’s CB account to fill out the profile? but the non-custodial parent, upon receive the email, will have to create another CB account to fill out the profile?
Hi @sybbie719 when I created the account, it is under “create your student account”, but I am really a parent, filing the non-custodial profile. Does it sound right?
Still can’t figure out how to set-up a NCP account. The link in this thread is wrong, but the mod keeps posting it on different threads regarding the NCP profile. If you click on that link, it clearly reads in red:
“If you have been notified to complete a 2018-19 CSS Profile as a noncustodial parent, please go to cssprofile.org”
If you go to ccsprofile.org there aren’t any instructions on how to complete a NCP profile.
Here’s other ideas that won’t work: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/2023744-where-to-make-css-profile-for-non-custodial-parent.html
Lots of frustrated parents trying to figure it out, but yet to find an answer on any forum.
Anyone actually complete it?
These are the steps I followed back in October that worked. It’s not a straightforward process, and there is no separate “non-custodial form” like there was in past years. The NCP fills out their own PROFILE. Since the account will be linked to the student (via the data in step 4), it will know that you are the NCP and only ask you a subset of the full profile questions.
This is even more ridiculous if as a parent you are going to college yourself and already have a collegeboard account - you can’t use that - you need a new email address to tie to this account if that is the case.
The last part of Step 8 is very important (changing the email address that is pre-filled on the form)
Step 3: You will be directed to a welcome page and will click on sign up.
Step 4: you will be taken to a page that says Create Your Student Account. In the general student information you will enter the student first and last name, the student gender and their date of birth.
Step 5: where it says Email address in the general student information you will enter your (the parent) email address and you will confirm the email address.
Step 6: After you enter your email address you will go to the next step and select the student High school graduation month and year, the student zip code and the student high school they attend/attended. You will skip the Filter by School Zip.
Step 7: In the username and password section you will create your own username and password and you will choose a security question from the drop down box then make an answer to your question you have picked.
Step 8: you will skip the Subscriptions and Parent Information section and you will click on “I agree with the Terms & Conditions.” And click next. The next page will ask you to confirm your information and then your account will be created. Please note when you are doing the application in the getting started-About the student section. you will see the noncustodial parent email address in the email section for that student, you will remove the email and enter the student email address.
@mtexas I ended up just creating a new Collegeboard account for my mom. Somewhere along the way there was a place where it asked for my (student)'s info and that was all it took to connect her account with me. I don’t remember all of the details because this was 2 months ago, but I can confidently say that we had to make a new account for her.
Looks like I’ll be on the phone with them again today - added 2 new schools to my daughter’s PROFILE… that side was fine, but they also want the NCP and i can’t find any way to get it sent to the new schools.
@Schadret Please let me know managed to fill the NCP. I selected college that asked for it, but on my NSP parent’s profile it said “As of this time, the student has not selected a college that requires your information.
Once the student makes such a selection, you will receive an email notification to complete your application at that time.” ?
Should I SUBMIT my custodial parent profile first ?
We actually submitted my custodial parent profile and paid for it, still not working. When you select the choice that it was the non-c parent with whom you spent most of the time, it lets you continue, but it behaves rather as a completely new profile for a new student.
It’s so awful this year. Basically like filling in the Profile twice. (@thumper1 - it doesn’t really “attach” anymore - it’s an entirely new form, though I assume CP still has to fill theirs first but IDK).
