Cut-throat Competition

Are academics at Yale very cut-throat?

Not in my experience so far. Maybe it's because none of my classes this year are curved...

No. People here pretty much are competetive with themselves more then they are with their classmates. People here really want to help eachother out, rather then be the "best." Yale encourages its students to try new things out. Academically, this comes in the form of being able to take classes "credit/d/fail," basically meaning if you get above a D in the class, you will simply get "credit" as so it wont affect your GPA. This allows students to try new subjects or take classes they wouldn't otherwise take without the preocupation with having to be at the top of the class, or how it will harm them in the longrun. If you end up doing well in the class, you can switch from "credit/d" to a letter grade.

i havent found any cutt throat competition..yalies ive met are pretty laid back

How academically rigorous would you say Yale is then? I know it's tough, but how likely is it that I'll be burned out?

Anyone know what Yale has to offer that Harvard doesn't?

A working residential college system and all of the perks that go along with it. An amazingly relaxed yet motivated evironment. People who LOVE where they are and what they are doing. To name a few...
