"CUTTING BACK ON MERIT AID"

Insidehighered.com posted an article a couple days ago url=http://insidehighered.com/news/2006/07/13/florida</a> on substantial cuts of financial aid for incoming students. It focuses on the University of Florida, which lures national merit scholars with big incentive packages. In staters receive about $22,000/8 semesters, and OOS $38,000. However, next fall, the numbers will decline to $5,000 and $17,000 respectively, which is saving them somewhere between 6-8 million.

I thought this article was pretty pertinent when I went to check my own state unviersity's website a few hours ago, only to realize they've completely rehauled their scholarship section, eliminating essay contests and awards they previously offered for full and half rides.

Needless to say, I'm kinda really bummed out right now.
