CVW dress attire

I have a CVW comin up and was just wondering what is acceptable wear during my stay. Does a nice black pair of jeans, black converse shoes, and a button down cut it? Thanks folks!

-David

it was pretty casual when went. dress your nicest the first day cause some admissions board people will be there, but after that just wear some decent looking, comfortable clothes.

I wore a nice pair of khaki's, dress shoes, and a button up shirt to class. I may have been a little bit over dressed but its better to be over dressed than under. you may feel strange when everyone is in uniform and you're in jeans and all-stars. I'd bring:

Something nice for the first night
Something pretty decent for classes
Something to work out in
Something to wear around bancroft.

ha, good point about feeling awkward with jeans surrounded by guys with uniforms. Thanks for the heads up guys, I appreciate it.

-David

no jeans.

suggestion: lots has been posted on this on the USNA forum.... try the advanced search feature and you will get tons of guidance rather than repeating it all here- best of luck!

Since when have khakis and a dress shirt become "overdressed?" :D

Yea, I know. But in fact, I was a parent @ that CVW #1 ... and dritch is on the $. There were but a handful of the 65 who did NOT have jeans on day#2. And indeed he's right ... so what. Far better to dress "up" (yep, khakis and a blue collared oxford cloth shirt were most definitely "up" that day, much to my surprise.)

After the classes on Friday, it's everyone for him/herself. Whatever works.

But no matter what the dress of the world, I too recommend looking "up." But up is not coat and tie. That would seem as out of place as jeans did to me for this gig.

My daughter went the khaki route as well, one pair with a nice black turtleneck and flats for first day, White polo-khakis and running shoes next day. Took workout clothes, used them, took swim suit, didnt use that. Slept in sweats. From all accounts, she hit the mark.

no one honestly cared what we wore when I was there, dress how you want

wrong answer. you should care. ;)

I agree. You should care enough to make the best impression that you can or else maybe you should re-think why you want to come to the Academy in the first place. My son wore khakis, oxford shirt and casual dress shoes when he had his CWV 3 years ago.

Wearing some nice clothes isn't the end of the world. Furthermore you'd better get used to it if you want to be in uniform for most of your college life.

I got back from one less than a month ago. I honestly don't remember anyone wearing jeans. Everyone I saw, as well as myself, wore either khaki or black trousers and a collared oxford/polo shirt.

Also, don't forget workout gear and shoes. Very helpful for PEP. We went on a ruck run through annapolis, and my Mid lent me a pair of cammies so that I'd blend in, so don't worry about that kind of stuff.

JarBlueand Gold....you THINK no one cared what you wore!

This may come as a shock, but I can guarentee everyone cares....there is not a THING at the academy that is not competetive or where you will not be judged against someone else...not one blessed thing.....

if you really believe what you posted, then I honestly hope you have lots of applications to other schools ready to go, cause you definately have the wrong impression on what the academy folks "care about." Reality Check!!!!

While I agree with you navy2010, that the academy is something that is absolutely competitive and shoudn't be taken lightly in any respect, in this particular case Jar is right. At the CVW I went to the only time any official made the connection with myself and person and my admissions file was to check off that I was present, after that the only person I was in contact was with my mid, who will have no say in what goes into my admissions file.

Thus for admissions, the only reference to the CVW that will go into your file (from my understanding) is that you attended.

Not so. Each host Mid is required to file a follow-up report on their drag, which we were informed goes into the application jacket.

rkavanaugh- sorry to say, you are incorrect on this one.

WhistlePig is right on the money-

not only will your Mid be evaluating you, but he/she will submit that evaluation FOR YOUR FILE within 24 hours of your visit......and guess who gets to see every single piece of paper in YOUR FILE!!!!!!!!!

Wake up out there.... if you haven't figured it out by now, this is NOT a run-of-the-mill institution you are talking about.....
On average, they will select 1 out of 1000 for an appointment..........ONE out of ONE THOUSAND......

wear your jeans and dirty sneakers and I guarentee you will get noticed!

i think its more around 1 in 10, but difficult nonetheless

1 in 10??? oops!!!! :o

does that mean then, "like- ah- it's not hard to get in????" ;)

This came from the original script for the movie Annapolis. The screen writers eventually changed it to 1,207 out of 50,000 were admitted to Annapolis.

Where did the rest go? WEST POINT :D
