What should i prepare for the coming up CVW? Will they hand out any appointments over there?

What kind of clothings should i wear? Should i wear my suit or just a dress shirt?

I don't beleive any appointments will be handed out.

Dress nice but causually. Nice pants and collared shirt - tucked in!

Bring bedding - the plebes don't really have any extra unless you are lucky to get one who has a sleeping bag that they are not using.

Towel for the shower.

ATHLETIC CLOTHES for Sat morning training - its cold you may be out running so plan.

I'd bring a sleeping bag as your bedding. You will probably get a cot. Also bring some comfortable clothes to wear around Bancroft on Friday night.

You may want to bring a pillow and some popcorn for the 9,345 videos you watch too. ;-)

Here's a statistic we haven't yet touched in our 'appointment' analysis....what is everyone's perspective on the following:
% of CVW invitees receiving an appointment...
% of CVW attendees receiving an appointment...

I'm not sure that statistic is published. The most I have heard is anecdotal posts from various students. Some say candidates are evaluated at CVW others have said that does not happen. Go figure. Does anyone know what time the CVW ends on a Saturday?

Just wear your normal high school clothes that isn't too essentric or bummy. If you come with a button down shirt tucked in and all preppy looking you'll really stand out, same with girls who over dress. And don't wear varsity letter jackets cuz they get laughed at too. The plebes do evaluate their drags after they leave. Last year my roommate's drag fell out of a run during SMT so that didn't look good.

Risk dressing "up" more than trying to figure out what is too preppy. This is transition time from baggy blue jeans, letter jackets, and t-shirts with messages to something else. Button downs are good and most appropriate. Many in the group. Indeed, son's mid informed him he had to have written eval on him. And did. I'd count on it.

I agree with Whistle Pig. This is like a job interview in a way. It's better to err on the side of being "too dressed" (although you won't be in a collared shirts, khakis or polo tugged in and belted) than to come across as too cool to care what people think. You will be evaluated and people are watching you. Bring a warm jacket, it's very cold in Maryland right now and promises to stay like that for the time being.

"You may want to bring a pillow and some popcorn for the 9,345 videos you watch too. ;-)"

Or, you could get lucky like me...Our flight was delayed, and we got into Annapolis about 3 hours later than we planned in November. Missed all those movies, and got to Rickover just in time to be given the company assignment!!

Yeah the kids who went to class in a hoodie and some baggy jeans really looked like slobs next to all the Mids in their uniforms.

Dress up.

What did SMT consist of...
esp running wise...

i'm in shape..i think? just dont want to be too blown away when i get there. any general idea would help.

thankkyou

Should we bring anything to work on (books/school of our own) while the plebe is studying/working on something while we're waiting?

In November, SMT was a ruck run through Annapolis. It was pretty cool, we got to dress up in cammies and put on a backpack with sand in it and go running 3 or 4 miles through the city of Annapolis. It was voluntary for us, but I'd recommend it.

e11- SMT is sometimes very difficult physically and sometimes it isnt physical at all. Example- yesterday morning I went to briefs all morning and didnt run a step (other than chopping) while two weekends ago we did 5 miles in boots n' utes with PT stations. Chances are generally very very good that there will be some form of PT involved tho. If you are in shape and you have a little mental toughness then you'll be good to go, dont sweat it too much, just have fun.

Grant- You'll be here on a friday night if im not mistaken so you could bring some light schoolwork just in case. If youre plebe is stacked on homework they may try and get some done Friday night. Just bring some in case so you dont get 'bored'.

Yeah I'd bring a book or something to do.

No mid is going to care what you wear, as long as your hair is not long or shaggy for males. Most, if not all of the plebes here don't even know about this candidate visit weekend yet until a day or two before the event when they get a lovely e-mail saying they have a drag to pickup. In other words, no one is going to be sizing you up and down like a real job interview and it is very lax and informal. It's your time to ask questions and let your mid know what interests you in the naval service.
As for Friday and Sat nights, there are movies in Mitscher auditorium. It's like going to the theatres for free on the yard. The movies are fairly new; last night I saw Casino Royale.

thanks for all the input! definitely looking forward to this weekend!

My daughter recieved an invitation in November to CVW, she recieved 2 noms in Dec and her LOA on Saturday (Go NAVY!). She is supposed to be a Senior in HS but decided to graduate early last July and started college here in GA last Fall. Anyway, she would have to miss 2 days of school for CVW and really can not do that with her college schedule.. does it in anyway effect/affect her to miss the CVW?

I'd bet not. But did she only get invite to this one? She might call and see if she can switch to a later one. I think there are 2 or 3 others upcoming that might fit for her?
