Cvw

ok, i am new to this forum and haven't checked every topic, but i've got a question....

i really want to attend usna, more than anything.
i am interested in attending the cvw. i've talked to some of my friends also applying and they've all received letters inviting them to attend. i haven't. i was wondering if there was some way to sign up or express interest in going without getting a letter. i thought about contacting my regional officer, but i imagine she's extrodinarily busy looking at all the new apps she's got (my ro just changed). i don't want to get blown off.

any advice?

e-mail your regional director and ask if there's any last minute spaces available! it worked for me! [i'm not really sure on what basis they send those letters out, but definitely dont feel discouraged!..i didnt get a letter about it either, i went to the one on jan, and a week later got an LOA!]

are we allow to leave early on CVW? I'm looking up air fares, I can save 200 bucks if I leave at 7:05 AM rather than 5:00 PM on Saturday.

it wasn't all that strict when i went, you really left on your own terms. i'd call your RO to make sure that's ok, but i don't see why it wouldn't be. they 'administration' didn't really keep tabs on you at all, so as long as you let your midshipman host know, it should work.

how far away is BWI to the academy? and how much is the cab fare?

BWI is about a 15 minute cab ride fromt he academy; it's a 60 dollar cab ride. Fortunately, Annapolis has a good public transportation system/shuttle that goes into the city.

I also contacted my regional director to ask to go. I received an invitation the next week. They do a really good job of getting back to you.

thanks guys, i just sent my ro an email. i'll let you guys now what happens.

don't take a cab, when you get to BWI go to Super Shuttle right near baggage claim, I think it will be about 30 bucks for the ride. I rode from BWI to Georgetown in DC for 30 bucks. For the way back just give them a call (1800-Blue Van, I think) 24 hours in advance to schedule a ride back to the airport.

i emailed and found out why i haven't gotten an invite.
since usna only has my nass cfa scores and did not know that i'm running track, they placed me in the pool for naps. that's why, i'm on the waiting list for naps.
my ro said i could go if i wanted, but it wouldn't help my status.

anyways, just a heads up for some of you guys sitting out there with updates for your profile and needing to retake your cfa...
you may not have gotten an invite because your on a waiting list or have not been found qualified. i will say, the easiest way to find out is to call your ro.

good luck everyone.

just want to say that bwi is more like a 30 minute ride to the yard.

in response to navy_clarinet--don't be too discouraged if you didn't get an invite. 1) NAPS is a pretty sweet deal, and 2) it might not mean anything....i didn't get an invite, had to call the RO to set up a date--got a scholastically q'd letter, LOA, and appointment all within 2 months of setting up the CVW!

i actually spoke to my ro and she said that i'm on the wait list for naps. she said i could go, but i decided not to because i went to nass and i dont think i can afford a flight to baltimore right now.

my ro did tell me if i retook my cfa, which i did today, i could most likely get into naps. i did pretty good. i'm excited.

really though, if you aren't sure about your status, just call, they'll talk to you about it.
