I know that if I get a D on a high school course, I will not be able to attend a UC. What if I get a D in a college calculus class this summer?

Junior year I failed my second semester of Calculus AB with a D and retook it at a community college over the summer. I also failed miserably in this class, Math 71/ Calc I+ Analytical Geometry, with a D grade again. I was accepted to all the UCs of my choice still. But don’t let your grades slip senior year or else your dream college will rip your heart to little pieces by rescinding your admissions offer…

If you don’t pass the classes in the A-G requirements, the UCs will rescind you. After all, you are no longer even UC-eligible. However if the calculus class is an extra math class then most UCs will let it slide, from what I’ve heard.

hey so i have experienced similar situation.
my freshman year i thought i could skip geometry and handle algebra 2 HONORS so i took it
but i didnt do so well, got a D+ the second semester.
back then i didnt know anything about college and the fact that i could retake classes at community college, my counselor just put algebra 2 REGULAR on my sophomore year schedule and I took it I got As both semester.
but the D+ from freshman year is still on my transcript though I guess I sort of retook the course. Now that im becoming a senior and i saw this thread i’m slightly worried again.
does it mean im not gonna get into UCs with that D+? what do I do now? retake it at a community college??

check with your HS counselor who should have a more definitive answer (or can contact someone in UC admissions to ask) but my take is that Algebra 2 is Algebra 2, honors or not; it counts towards the A-G requirements either way. And furthermore the UC schools don’t count GPA from frosh year so the D+ grade won’t even affect you. The only aftereffect that I’d expect is that when they look at difficulty of schedule they’ll see for this particular class you took the regular session instead of honors.

bump.

I can retake the calc class during the school year with AP Calculus. But I’m just worried about the D still. I don’t have to take calc since I already completed everything up to precal/trig.

I dropped a Calculus course at my community college and still got in. Retake it and you’ll be fine.

Thanks for the help! i TOTALLY forgot about the whole freshman year doesn count thing. man i got so upset about it. but yeah the difficulty thing… i will double check with my counselor.
