D in Community College class can the Cal State rescidn?

Just found out kid got a D in a community college course for second semester of senior year. Can the university rescind the offer? GC told her not to have the grade reported but wouldn’t the college know kid was signed up for the class already when application was filled out? It’s for a Cal State. GC said if it was a C or better to report as it’s just a transfer credit. Panicking over here for obvious reasons.

https://www2.calstate.edu/attend/student-services/Documents/Admissions-Handbook-2020-21.pdf page 9 gives some general information on provisional admission and what is expected afterward. However, more specific information for the student and CSU campus would have to be found on the admission portal and/or by asking the campus directly.

According to your previous posts, she SIR’d to SDSU.

Here is what SDSU’s requirements for admitted students. If the college course was listed on the CSU application, a copy if the transcript will be required.

All courses you listed as in progress or planned in your senior year must be completed with grades of C- or higher. You must also maintain your reported overall grade point average. If your grade point average and/or current course grades drop, or if there is a discrepancy in what you reported on your application compared to your transcript(s), your offer of admission may be withdrawn.

** Request official transcripts be sent to SDSU as soon as grades are posted

  • High School Transcript(s) including fall 2020 grades. You must submit transcripts from all high schools attended.
  • **Community College Transcripts. If you have community college transcripts to submit, please note that SDSU will accept only electronic transcripts from the schools listed on the Transcriptsweb page. Be sure to indicate this preference when making your request. If your community college does not send electronic transcripts, then they can mail the official transcript to the address listed on the Transcript Submission and Status web page.

Thanks. Her GPA went up and she reported first semester already. Second semester high school transcript is being sent on the 18th. The above notes don’t mention Spring 2021. I do. It have clarity yet on why hee GC thought she would not have to report the community college course from 2nd semester if she didn’t get a c. I will find out tomorrow.

Sorry, my post got cutoff but final transcripts with Spring grades are required by July 15.

Due July 15, 2021

  • Request final official transcripts be sent to SDSU
    • High school transcript(s) including spring 2021 grades/credits. Your school needs to send final official transcripts, which include spring 2021 grades/credits and date of graduation
Transcripts from all colleges you attended while in high school including spring 2021 grades.

We finally got clarification. The second semester Community College class was never listed on the CSU application as an intended course for senior year. She registered for the course after her application had already been submitted.

She did take a Community College course first semester that she indicated that was an intended course and already sent that grade to SDSU a long time ago.

Thanks to both of you for the references on how this is handled. That was one hell of a restless night.

She will still have to report the CC grade and course if she plans on attending Graduate or Professional schools so unfortunately it will always be part of her permanent college record. I would still check with SDSU. Just because she did not report it on her CSU application, she still took the course, the grade is there and SDSU could find out about it. There is a National Clearing house for college transcripts that would have a record of the class/grade so there is no where to hide it forever.

If the course is not CSU transferable, then this is moot.

Yes we are aware the grade is on her transcript forever if and when the time comes for graduate school. She had a meeting with her GC from the high school today and has a meeting with her SDSU advisor tomorrow to cover all of her bases.

Thank you so much for your expertise. So appreciative.

Feel good update! My daughter emailed her professor yesterday to basically beg for one point in order to get a C in the class.

To our shock and dismay he had already rounded up her final grade and submitted it before he even read her email.

Feeling incredibly grateful for his kindness. She was prepared to retake the class this summer.

It’s been an incredibly taxing couple of days during what has been an incredibly taxing college admissions season.

I am just full of gratitude and hope and believe there is a BIG a lesson here for my daughter to learn and grow from.

The whole debacle shaved 15 years off my life

Hi! Looks like this turned out great for your daughter - yah!! I have a question for you - my rising senior was taking a CC class purely for grade boost (not necessary for a-g), it’s clear she can’t get an A. If she withdraws with a W, does that class have to be reported when applying to college? She hasn’t taken any other CC classes, so a transcript doesn’t have to be ordered for any other reason.

TIA!!

All classes including withdrawals need to be reported on a college application and an official transcript sent once she matriculates. A withdrawal however will be not be an issue for admissions.
