Hi. I am currently a sophomore in high school and received a D on my semester report card for AP Computer Science. This class is an elective in which I went into not knowing anything about computer programming. I was wondering if this would affect my chances of getting into a university, and if so, by how much?
PS- I have A’s in all my other classes with the exception of one B.
A “D” on a transcript is not favorable and will bring your gpa down. What else is there to say? Electives still count. PE doesn’t count. Please talk to your guidance counsellor about mitigating the D when you apply. it’s fine to try something new you aren’t entirely comfortable with and you can explain that, but you need to get at least a C, maybe sophomore year was too early or you needed to get more help or work harder. It is intended for people with no experience, but often times the people drawn to that class do have some.
Are you on a yearly schedule? Meaning will you be taking AP Computer Science this semester too?
