Hello all, this is my first post.

I'm a 29 single female and live in Dallas, TX. I have switched majors several times, but the past two years I have gone back and forth between nursing and teaching. After spending this past month in the hospital everyday to see my dad, I have decided nursing is not something I can handle for many years. It is emotionally draining. My friends and even their parents think I would be an inspiring teacher and I can see myself being that as well.

As far as schooling, I have my associate in science and have taken about all I can from the community junior college. It is now time to pick a University and finish the classes there. I am working full-time and if I did go back, I would have to wait until the Summer semester, which I think is possible at UT Dallas.

My question is what would be the best schools to choose from in Dallas for an Elementary Education degree? For UTD they offer Child Learning and Development degree. Would this be the equivalent of an EE degree? I would like to start as soon as possible and not have to wait until next Fall wherever I go.

Thank you!

Do you know any teachers who are working where you would like to find a teaching job? They are your best source for the inside scoop. In each job market there are a few teacher education programs that are more successful at training and placing their graduates.

When you look at the college and university websites, check carefully for what each of them has to say about preparing students to meet state licensing requirements. Pay attention to the number of courses that include practical classroom experiences. The sooner that is required the better. As with your hospital observations, you won’t have a clear idea about what a teacher’s work is like until you are right in the middle of it.

I know of several people who went to UT Dallas and are now teachers :). It seems like a good school!

I looked through their website and I found something about early education certification. I hope it helps:
