Stop parenting collegehelp.

Adulthood will eventually find you, slipper.

Reality check: Pot (plus X and molly, for that matter) is prevelant at many, many, many schools.

Make a decision about your own behavior and stick to it. IMO, the peer pressure so common in HS fades away in college (except among boys and drinking, it seems). Most mature people won't pressure you to do anything you don't want to.

FWIW, I'm an admission officer who spent a good amount of time in Residence Life, living in the halls, before making the switch. I was saddened by the amount of drug use I saw at very selective colleges. But I'm happy to restate that students never seemed to feel pressure to join in.

why does collegehelp feel the need to be self righteous and preach-post repeatedly even though swagster is not going to change his ways over a ridiculous website college discussion board? anyway, i go to nyu, and pot is huge here, although i dont do it myself. i've got friends at vandy- probably about the preppiest school EVER- who do pot. pot is everywhere. pot = college recreation. this shouldnt be a matter of pot but your personality... which we have already established. nyu has a lot of counter-cultural personalities but also a lot of metropolitan all-stars. you'll find extremes of both crowd... but here, it's not really a matter of fitting in, just finding people in the 20,000 person crowd.. good look in your search.

One again, I appreciate all your views. I have just recently purchased a huge book by the princeton review where it list many schools, and many facts about their lifestyles, fashions, etc etc. Boulder like many of you guys stated above was extremely popular with this hippie counter coulture. Reed was also very popular, as with Hampshire college, University of Vermont, and even Syracuse. I was also suprised to see that perhaps one of my reach schools, Amherst, also had prevalent amounts of weed.

I also want to say please guys, stop picking on collegehelp. I realize his/her ( sorry ) concern and how many kids who are very smart just go to college, get too involved in the drinking or smoking, and ruin their chances at a bright future. However, I have been smoking for years and if i wanted to try hard drugs, I would have by now. Yet, screwing up my life like that doesn't interest me too much. It's hard to critisize people for smoking ecspecially if you have never smoked before. I think that if many people stating how "horrible" pot was actually tried it, I can almost be assured their ideas would change. Even with all this, I still greatly appriciate the time and concern you take to try to steer me in the right direction. But, I can assure you that if i got into Boulder college and Harvard, I still have the maturity to look at the big picture and where I want to be in 15 years.

Please keep posting your comments because i really enjoy listening to what you all have to say. thanks for the time, but right now im gonna go study to improve my SATs so i can early decision to amherst, get in, and throw a huge party. thanks again and keep the thoughts coming

Collegehelp's "plea" would be much more influential if
a) you were actually Smagster's parent and
b) you had something to substantiate your claims of the horrors of pot

There's plenty of great colleges for left-wing nutjobs out there. I'm sure you'll find one that suits you just fine.

I feel very strongly that you should consider Berkeley, Brown, Reed, Wesleyan, UC Santa Cruz, Pitzer, Bard and Swarthmore.

REED, char limit

Colorado College- 100%

Wisconsin Madison-lots of hippies in madison (both the city and the school) every year there is "harvestfest) a march down state street in which hippies and other potsmokers smoke openly right in front of the capitol building).

When I visited Tufts, I thought it had a preppy feel.

Reed Reed Reed. I wish I didn't love high heels, internships and big cities so much. I'd go there in a heartbeat.
