Damn reading section...

If I took the SAT again and my overall score went down, would that reflect negatively toward colleges I apply to?

The reason I'm asking is because I think I really did my best on math and reading with 760 in each, but I did relatively poorly in reading with a 650. I know if I retake I can get my reading up, but I'm not sure if my math and reading will change at all and I fear they may go down.

If a college says they take the composite score, do single-sitting scores have any bearing on their decision?

The really could care less about single sittings if they say the take the best composites--all they do is glance at the highest, add them, and it's done. Many students stress a lot over things like superscores considering how quickly they end up being calculated in the admissions office.

College A takes the highest scores.

Joe Blogg:

800 CR 700 M 750 W
700 CR 800 M 710 W
700 CR 700 M 780 W

800 + 800 + 780 = 2380, and it's all done.
