damn : (

well, alot of u have seen me around...i basically have best shots at Michigan and UCLA. If i got into both, i dlove to go to LA cuz of weather, next to the beach, gf, friends, and it has my major...but my sister and mom are really pushing for me to go to Michigan if i get in..harassing me about it. If i ge tinto both, is there anyway i can hide my acceptance to michigan..if i burend my accpetance would they ever find out

lol. I've never heard that one before. Are you really choosing UCLA over Michigan based just on those reasons? College is a time of new experiences. I wouldn't be so fast to single out Michigan. It's a great college and you'll have a chance to get away from the "bubble" for once.

if you like LA better go to LA. If you get into both, you're parents will never find out (depends how involved your parents are the app process). If they do find out, just say that LA has your major and Michigan doesn't. Why do your parents want you to go to UMich so badly???

I'm on the fence about this.

For one, I'm glad that I chose UCLA and stayed close to my girlfriend (and let's just say that I had some higher ranked schools on my acceptance list).

On the other hand, leaving the bubble is always good. Granted, I did go abroad and to DC during my time at UCLA, so I escaped the bubble as much as I could. But there are times that I wish I had considered the East Coast a bit more. I'm sure my girlfriend and I would have survived.

well Michigan has my major (ross) and UCLA has business economics. My sister just feels that if i go to Michigan and do enter Ross school of business, my chances at getting a job are significantly higher and better rather than just going to UCLA.

you could visit UMich and see if you would enjoy it there as well :)
and yeah, you can always convince your parents. no parents can win their children! (sometimes)
but don't worry too much about it until you get the letters
best of luck!

yeah i definitely must get accepted first but if i get into both ill really be torn...cuz la still has a great educatinon..my gf..friends lol

don't weight your "gf" and "friends" in your decision making process.

Honestly, you'll find a great gf and friends anywhere.

Dang right.

geez LOL we'll see : )

In the same situation I picked UCLA over Michigan mainly due to weather and tuition costs. Michigan has a top 5 business school, but I believe UCLA's working on a Business Management minor to make up for part of what we'd miss as Business Economics majors.

For me I would have had a tougher time rejecting Michigan's business program if there wasn't such a disparity in tuition. It's really your call. In any case, both schools are good and you can't really go wrong with either.

well...tuition isnt the issue I can pay for it. the problem is UCLA's business program does not have the prestige Ross does and that is what is swaying both my parents and my sister to push for that school if i get in.

This is generally true. But an important question might be how much this will matter. The difference may not make or break you come job time if you're able to get a good internship while at UCLA.

I'll put it another way: You're better off at UCLA with a great internship than Michigan with none. But I also think that you can't discount environment and fit. If you won't be happy at Michigan, then all the prestige in the world won't make a difference.

So is Michigan's b-school better? Yes. Is it worth putting yourself through misery? Probably not.
