DANA Scholars

Anyone apply and know when we hear back?

D applied and not a clue as to when she hears back. I've been wondering myself...

The letters that went out inviting students to apply said mid-April...I'm anxiously awaiting the news...!

Can someone please explain what a Dana scholar is?

Muhlenberg Merit Scholarships

scroll down to Honors Programs

soozi1 - it's one of three honors programs merit scholarships available at through the school.

Thanks for the info. So you apply and don't get recruited? Does anyone Know any thing about the bio dept.?

I believe for the RJ Fellows and Dana Scholars, you are invited to apply.

My daughter received an invite to apply for Dana Scholars, but frankly, it came at a time when she had not one spare minute to apply since she was also busy traveling for auditions, etc. But after receiving her acceptance to the school, she received notification that she was also accepted into the Muhlenberg Scholars honors program, which included a scholarship... no extra application involved.

That is wonderful for your daughter. These kids work do hard for 4 years that they should be recognized.

soozi1 - yes, it was a wonderful surprise, and yes, it is nice that they are recognized in some manner after four years of very hard work. She also qualified for two other merit scholarships, so we have a nice package from Muhlenberg; like I said in another thread, our costs are about the same as if she attended our large pubic U.

When D1 attended Syracuse, she was initially part of their honors program (dropped out by choice after a year), but their honors program did not offer scholarship money. However, she, too, received a Founder's Scholarship based on just her application to the school, so it was a nice hunk of change we saved.

So I guess some of the fiancial aid packages are out already. We are still waiting.

What determines if you become a scholar? GPA and SAT?

That and an essay... I still haven't heard anything back :/

For Dana scholars, yes, an essay.

I'm guessing the orginal screening is based on class rank, GPA, rigor of curriculum, ECs and standardized test scores.

But for the Muhlenberg Scholars program, it's based on what they see in your original application. Remember that between the three honors programs/scholarships, only 60 freshman are accepted; they have set numbers that they will accept, so it's not a matter of if you meet certain criteria, then you're in. It's where you compare to the other students you're in competition with.
