The main thing I do outside of school is dance. I also do some clubs at my school, but I don’t do any sports. I want to go to William and Mary, but I am wondering if dance is enough. I have danced year-round since 4th grade and been on my studio’s competition team since sophomore year (I am a rising senior and plan to continue dancing in senior year). I do contemporary, jazz, hip hop, and ballet. I have assisted in teaching some dance classes and camps for younger kids. I am definitely interested in auditioning for Orchesis and minoring in dance.
Basically, I’m asking if dance is a good enough extra-curricular activity to get me into W&M. Is there anybody that mostly danced for their ECs and was accepted? Also, should I make a supplement dance video for my application?
Thanks.
You should definitely submit a supplemental dance video! I also participated in competition dance all my life and am now a member of Orchesis and LOVE IT. Dance was mostly all I did in high school aside from some regular volunteering and I think if anything that boosted my application by showing my dedication and passion for dance.
If you were thinking about submitting a dance supplement, definitely do it! It is one of those things that is difficult to describe in words, but if you have spent that much time with it, it would be wonderful if you can show them your chops. The admissions officers are generally always looking for more ways to learn about you, so that would add a lot of color to your application. Besides they have received some pretty wacky stuff in the past, but the would definitely appreciate something like this.
