Congratulations on acceptances and decisions made! My daughter has committed to the Fordham/Ailey BFA program. We are so happy for her and cannot wait to watch her future unfold!
Congratulations on a decision and wonderful program for your daughter, @24bunheadmom20 !

Accepted to BOCO and SUNY-Purchase.
Attending: SUNY-Purchase!
congratulations to your daughter @shanniebannie and good luck to her next fall!
Daughter hasn’t committed yet… I know, I know… time is a ticking! We are still trying to figure out how we will pay for Marymount Manhattan. Losing a lot of sleep over this. How are you all dealing with the financial aspect of sending our talented children to their dream schools?
My son hasn’t committed yet either. No news from USC regarding waitlist. He asked me about NYU again yesterday and I told him he can get a loan if he wanted to go. He doesn’t live with me and I can’t tell from his text how he felt.
Must’ve been dejected. Should’ve done more research on scholarships at Tisch before letting him apply. He is still deciding where to put down deposit, UCI or Stanford. We haven’t but probably will make a trip to Stanford before May1.
I’m sorry @SCMHAALUM , the finances for some of these schools are just so high. How is your son affording his other school choices? He can only take out $5500 on his own.
@amom2girls We live in LA so UCI is no issue. We have saved in his college fund to pay for UC’s. If he gets off waitlist at USC, we hope he can get some scholarship as whoever declines their offer probably has scholarship. We know one of the kids who got off the list and attended 2 years ago was offered scholarship. If not he is willing to commute to cut cost. As for Stanford we are planning to use some of our assets to help him now and he can pay us back later. A BFA in dance from Tisch is just not going to enable him to do that. He loves dancing but is not very talented. He would not have made this far in dance if he were a girl. Academics comes so much easier for him so we insist that he finishes college with academic credentials he can use to pursue something else later (Plan B), thus USC and Stanford. We’ve heard quite a few kids who are way more talented than him ended up changing colleges and majors because they see how hard it is or simply lose interest/passion once they get in college.
April is even harder than March Ugh!
We had an inheritance that we saved. We had saved enough money on our own (529 plan) to afford roughly $25k-$28k per year, but the inheritance that we tucked away made it so our daughter could explore other schools as well. Butler had been her first choice, with a hefty price tag. She did get some merit money from them, but it still would have been in the mid-$30k range had she gone there. She was accepted academically but not for the BFA, so it became a moot point. Had we not had the extra cushion saved away, we would have had to look at loans.
@SCMHAALUM , got it. So the California schools are in state for you…how awesome! And I totally understand the whole conversation of how much debt to ecru for a BFA. We let our daughter do a reach school (audition and cost) with the caveat that if she got in she needed a very nice package. (that was NYU for us). I am so grateful that she chose Rutgers, since they have a very strong program but also gave her a very nice scholarship. That scholarship made Rutgers cheaper than our in-state school.
We had said we would pay for the equivalent of in-state UC costs. Fortunately all D18’s schools came in at (or close to) that level. We knew from the NPC that was likely to happen due to their academic scholarships, except at UT Austin where their OOS tuition waiver was a complete surprise. Her choice (Utah) turned out to be the cheapest (by far), but her decision was more about the fact it was the best ballet-focused program she got into.
I just totaled up the 4 year scholarship values from all the colleges her and her twin brother were admitted to. It’s not real money of course (though I think their school and college advisor both like to highlight how much money students can get in scholarships) but it was still surprising to see that the total came to a nice round $1,000,000. Unfortunately her brother isn’t interested in any of the colleges offering significant money, so I’m just glad we have cheap instate UC tuition as a good option. That is actually less expensive than the private schools offering him money anyway.
@amom2girls So good your daughter found the program she loves! My son didn’t want to pursue dance till about 18 months ago when he attended the open house at USC and fell in love with the program (the amazing facility mostly). Not very talented, not very informed, not having enough training and experience, he decided to move away from home to attend Orange County School of Arts for his senior year to focus on training. He did application and prepared for audition on his own, with help from his teachers. I didn’t even know all these programs your daughter and others have applied for. He only applied for 3 BFA programs: USC, NYU and SUNY Purchase, and didn’t make it to Purchase audition. We thought he would have a good chance of getting scholarships from NYU, as my daughter got half tuition merit scholarship 4 years ago from engineering school and she didn’t have the academic stats as my son. Another neighbor got half tuition merit scholarship from Tisch for music a couple of years ago. When my son contacted Tisch Dance a couple of weeks ago he was told each school and each department is different. Tisch Dance just doesn’t offer merit only scholarships. Now he doesn’t have a BFA program he can attend since the only other one is USC which he is wait listed. He is looking at either UCI to continue training with his current studio and apply again next year or Stanford and find possible training in that area. Stanford was his dream school before he shifted to dance and now I cannot get him to feel excited about going there!
@SCMHAALUM what an interesting problem to have… I feel for you, sincerely!
@SCMHAALUM your son has some great choices and I think if he was accepted to NYU Tisch dance he must be very talented! Good luck to him, wherever he chooses to go!
@heidib good luck in the process ahead. Neither pace or NYU worked out. Heading to point park which is triple threat and getting excited about it! Uarts is another program which has More than traditional ballet/modern focus so definitely consider it! My daughters friend is going there, my daughter preferred PPU but was initially considering it.
@grit2018 congratulations to your daughter on making a decision! Good for her on getting excited about her choice:))
My daughter got her SUNY Purchase Dance BFA acceptance letter this weekend…finally!! She got a scholarship from Point Park at NYCDA Nationals last year. She was also accepted to UArts(nice scholarship) and The Studio School (formerly The Relativity School). The Studio School gave her a HUGE scholarship. Out of the 5 schools she applied to, Pace is the only one that denied her for dance even though she received academic acceptance. We were shocked, but hey…4 out of 5 ain’t bad. SUNY was first choice, but she is still considering The Studio School because of her love of commercial dance. We will see!
Congrats @shellys7 nice options!
Congratulations @shellys7 on your DD’s acceptances! It’s great that she has so many choices. I’ve never heard of Studio School (I live in Los Angeles), however I’ve heard so many wonderful things about the dance program at Purchase. As she visited both?
