Last year my daughter also heard from Oklahoma in about 3 weeks. She auditioned for both ballet and modern and IIRC the no (ballet) and the yes (modern) arrived in separate envelopes on the same day.
Anyone attending Discover USC on campus tomorrow? We’re going.
@Undercovermom1 how did the Discover USC event go? Just curious!
@mom2adancer it was a really nice event. I sat in on a parent to parent chat (parents of current dance students), and a session about their media/dance class. My kiddo ran off with friends and took several dance classes. Lots of dancers there!
I would really recommend juniors attend - I think it would be more beneficial to get that info earlier if they are considering USC.
I’ll be so happy when all apps are in! I think there are still 3 or 4 with missing bits (video here, photo there, essay to revise, etc).
Anyone who auditioned for University of Arizona dance, have you heard back yet?
Saw that you attended Mason Gross and Peabody auditions… was curious what your take was from those programs? We haven’t heard much about them
@thedancermom by no means am I that knowledgeable about Rutgers or Peabody. I do get the feeling that they both tend to be more contemporary and that is what my dancer prefers. Rutgers offers the ability for Dance Majors to study abroad and also offers a 5 year BFA/EdM which I find interesting. We don’t personally know anyone attending Rutgers. Peabody is brand new - currently in its first year. For some students it may be exciting to be a pioneer of a new dance program. We do know a student there that is very happy. The link with JHU is prestigious. Finally, with Michael Bloomberg’s recent (huge) donation, they’ve eliminated loans from their FA packages. That could make things very interesting.
Please excuse my ignorance, but is there a market for k-12 dance teachers? I read through the Rutgers information and it seems the masters in Ed prepares them to teach dance only?
Maybe this link will be helpful to you: http://www.masongross.rutgers.edu/dance/programs-of-study/graduate/faqs#distinctive
@Undercovermom1 Thanks so much, any bit of info is helpful! Especially with all these programs being so different! My daughter also prefers more of a contemporary program. Sometimes when the program says modern, I’m not sure if they mean “true” modern technique or if it’s more a contemporary style. Wow, the no loan thing is very interesting!
My daughter is currently a freshman BFA at Mason Gross if anyone has any questions!
If anyone is auditioning at Utah on 2/9, I’d encourage you to try and watch a performance of La Fille Mal Gardee while you’re there. Auditioning students usually are offered two comp tickets. The performances that weekend are 2/7 at 5:30pm, 2/8 at 7:30pm, and 2/9 at 2pm and 7:30pm.
My daughter is a Sophomore at the Ailey-Fordham BFA, if anybody has questions. Also, I’m happy to share application and audition process information in general for other schools we are familiar with, like Oklahoma, NYU, Indiana, Rutgers, George Mason, SMU.
@corrigg Thanks for the offer of info, it’s so helpful in this crazy process!?Would love to hear more about Mason Gross audition process, my daughter is auditioning there soon. Also, do you know if NYU notifies everybody at the same time?.. aside from ED of course! Thanks so much!!
Has anyone who auditioned for George Mason 1/12 heard back? Daughter is anxious and they said 10 days. Any advice for NYU and Pace auditions? She is doing those this weekend.
@corrigg My daughter is thinking about doing a certificate program with Ailey ( as she just decided she wants more intensive training than her current college) - and we missed the Ailey/Fordham application deadline. Do the certificate and Ailey /Fordham students take classes together?
@dkmm1973 , my daughter did the Pace audition back in the fall at the intensive. She felt like it was not a stressful audition like the one she had just had at Arizona. She didn’t feel like it was difficult either and enjoyed the hip hop portion which was different than the others she has done. Good Luck!
@thedancermom @dkmm1973 My son attended NYU audition last year. They made a couple of cuts throughout the day before giving the kids a chance to do their solos. He was notified with all other kids applying for NYU mid-late March(?) of acceptance.
So far my dancer has auditioned for Rutgers, Cornish, Peabody, CalArts, Dominican and USC. Still has Purchase and Marymount Manhattan to go.
Does anyone know when Peabody sends acceptances? Is it rolling or a specific date?
Information from your audition, along with the rest of your credentials, will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee. On April 1st (December 15th for early decision, June 14th for Late auditions), we will send you an email containing audition results and access to other information related to your application. Decisions for incomplete applications will not be made until we receive the missing information.s://peabody.jhu.edu/audition-apply/application-requirements/application-instructions/undergraduate-instructions/
