Thank you @mom2adancer
@SCMHAALUM How long was the NYU audition? My daughter auditions on Friday and I want to plan something afterward, if possible.
@linda743 My daughter auditioned at NYU and the ballet and modern part was only about 2 hours. Then they made a cut and dancers chosen to do solo/interview started pretty quickly after…they all stay and watch each others solos so it can depend on how many were chosen to continue on with the audition. It started at 1:00 and we were leaving about 5:30. Hope that helps, good luck to your daughter!
@thedancermom Thanks for the info and the good luck for my daughter. Does everyone stay? Even the ones who were cut?
The ones that are cut leave before the solos.
same time
@linda743 I didn’t go to any audition with my son. He confirmed what @thedancermom said about the schedule, remembering a short break between the classes and solo/interview.
@thedancermom , I don’t know if NYU notifies everyone at the same time. My daughter did not make it through the cut-down process during her audition, so we really don’t know.
@thedancermom , hopefully it’s not too late, but the Mason Gross audition process was fair and smooth, it was like taking a dance class, according to my daughter.
@jrpdance, Yes, the Certificate students take classes with the BFA students. The biggest challenge with Certificate students is that you have to find your own housing. Otherwise, the dance program is largely the same. Also, the Certificate students have more classes, as the BFA students follow the Fordham school calendar, and the certificate students follow the Ailey calendar.
@corrigg Thank you for the Mason Gross info! My D auditions in a few weeks there ?
Hi amom2girls. can you share please why your daughter chose Mason Gross over Towson for dance?
Hi everyone. I can’t seem to find a single post from anyone who has experience auditioning for the UCLA Dance major. The audition was this weekend and my daughter did not feel it went well for her, so I was hoping to get some insight. If anyone has any insight into UCLA Dance, I’d so appreciate it. Thank you sooo much ahead of time! :))
@balletmom101010 She really enjoyed the audition process at both schools. She did not love the Towson campus. The Q & A process at Towson led her to believe there would not be enough dance. She also felt a lot of the kids lived off of campus, had cars and/or went home on the weekends. In addition, she did not enjoy the performance that they held after the audition. It just did not appeal to her.
What does your dancer think about it? My daughter is enjoying her experience at Mason/Gross.
My DD went to audition at UCLA. She said she did ok. She said random students got asked after their solo, but not her. She saw so many great dancers, but also not that good dancers. She has a good stat, but who knows. We just pray. Good luck to everyone!
@Mom2girls do you know if Mason Gross awards talent scholarships?
@twinklestars Thank you for your post. My daughter is worried she didn’t get asked anything after her solo and thinks that means they weren’t interested. I can’t gauge if she’s reading too much into it or not. She also has great stats and has been dancing for a very long time. Just feeling nervous, but I’m sure it’ll all work out the way it’s meant to.
@Undercovermom1 my daughter is one of 4 BFA dancers who were invited in to the Honors College (500 students chosen throughout the entire University system). One of the 4 ended up getting off of the wait list at NYU, so there are now 3. I cannot speak for the other dancers, but she earned the 2nd highest scholarship that Rutgers offers. It is scholarship that is open to everyone, but for her it was based on merit. (though she has a very nice GPA and her ACT falls right in the acceptance range, she does not have the scores that most of the Honors students have. She is in a sea of Engineers/potential doctors and other incredibly bright students. It has been good for her to be out of a complete dance bubble;)
Happy to discuss the process if you have any questions.
Wow @amom2girls that’s impressive! Are you in instate or oos?
I think scholarship awards will be released within the next few weeks.
we are out of state. I’m pretty certain that she received her acceptance to the BFA and then a few weeks later received the offer for the Honors College/scholarship. She felt like she had a great audition.
