My auditions are coming up. I am a pretty experienced dancer, but I'm just wondering what actually happens at the dance call. I understand that there is a warm up and a combination, but what are some specifics that colleges have asked for?

Each dance call is different - different styles, speeds of teaching, and difficulty of combination. Most focus on some basic ballet and/or jazz technique, a pirouette (can be single or multiple if you can do that), some rhythmic and footwork challenges, and something to show extension. Some schools begin with barre, some do center barre, and some do a jazz warmup. However, not every school does a warmup, so make sure you are warmed up! A few schools do across-the-floor work. Also, some schools (but not many) ask tappers to tap, and some (such as Elon) ask advanced dancers to demonstrate further skills. Hope this helps - good luck with all of your auditions!

What is most likely going to happen with the combination is that someone will teach it to you, and then you will all go in small groups. It is important to be quiet when you are not dancing and show the auditors that you are focused and responsible. Good luck!
