Hi everyone!
A few of the schools I'm applying to require pre-screens in which I need to submit some dance. The problem is, I have only half a year of ballet training under my belt. I haven't the slightest clue what to show these schools because I can barely get through a barre exercise. Did anyone face this same situation? Any advice on what you did-or advice from anyone in general-would be greatly appreciated.

Can your teachers help? One of the owners of the school my S attends spent a few hours helping him prepare his dance clips. I think they would know best how to showcase your skills.

Get a teacher to help put together a one min video. My D did that and it worked out fine.

My daughter was also essentially a non-dancer. We hired a dance teacher to help her choreograph a 2 minute routine, which she needed for one unified audition, one on-campus audition and one video audition. She was accepted to all 3. Although she is not a trained dancer, this shows that she is capable of moving and learning a routine.

Take a look at the blog section of get acceptd - the dance consultant who wrote the article for those looking at a BFA in Dance also does dance consultations/coaching for MT majors thru college audition coach dot com and can help you with prescreens as well as audition prep.

In the mean time, get to ballet class!

^ Yep, just saw an email about what do-what-you-luv said. Definitely worth a look!
