Dance Program?

Hi…I was wondering if anyone had any information on the dance program?
Can you major or minor?
What are the classes like?
Are their performance opportunities?
Do you need to audition?
Any information is helpful!

The dance program here is really cool actually. You can only minor in dance, but we also have the Bucknell Dance Company, which is a really hardcore group of dancers, I want to say ballet mostly but I could be wrong there. Then each semester there is the Choreographers’ Showcase which is open to the entire campus and different guest choreographers, faculty, and students choreograph pieces in basically any style you can think of. I am by no means a dancer so this can’t be all of the styles I’ve seen, but I know they’ve recently done ballet, modern, jazz, tap, hip-hop, “social dancing”, Irish step dancing, Chinese water sleeves (that’s a class here, it’s really pretty), and basically anything you can think of.

My roommate from last year is a dancer, as are many of my sorority sisters, and they all really enjoy the program here. And the theatre program is also really enjoyable, plus for students with dance backgrounds a lot of our theatre shows, even non-musicals, feature dancing/movement so that’s really fun.

That’s copy/pasted from another thread… let’s see. You can audition for an arts merit scholarship in dance, and you audition for the Bucknell Dance Company and the Choreographers’ Showcases (the Choreographers’ Showcase is easier to get into but still excellent)

There is also the Bison Girls, a dance squad thing? I’m not too sure of exactly what the exact term is but they come out during halftime at the basketball games and dance–not like cheerleaders but I guess a similar concept?

I’ve never taken a dance class but many of my friends have and they really love the classes and the faculty. There are plenty of performance opportunities.

One of my dance teachers was a guest dance specialist at Bucknell and taught a modern seminar there recently, and some of her closest friends work there in the dance department. She said that the dance minor is as rigorous as a dance major anywhere else. She was very impressed by the talent and integrity of the students as well.
