Are there any more Unifieds for dance majors anywhere in the country for late 2018/early 2019? We live very close to Chicago, but we are willing to travel.
I’m not certain what dance unifieds are? There is nothing in dance similar to what MT and Acting BFA’s have. There is a program in NYC every October put on by Dancewave. Many programs attend but not all consider it an audition. There is something yearly in Boca Raton, but again, I don’t believe it is considered an audition.
There may be something offered through a more competition based organization that I am unaware of. I think, for most of us it is really about setting up a schedule of auditions back in the summer. Have you had a look at last years very long post of auditioning dancers? There is a lot of information.
Yes, something like DanceWave. Just wondering if there’s anything else like that.
Not that I am aware of, but a lot of programs have audition tours which can reduce the amount of travel needed. Even if not local, you can end up with the ability to combine two auditions at different schools on one weekend in a single city (LA, SF and NYC are most common, Chicago less so I think).
Those tours are also a good option, especially as they can be slightly less competitive and easier to stand out in. But you really need to plan a schedule ASAP, because there are lots of conflicts. We had 9 auditions scheduled over 5 consecutive weekends last January/February, sometimes in different cities on the same weekend.
@canydance Unfortunately you just missed the one in Chicago last weekend! CNADM had their fall college fair/audition in Oak Brook. About 25 colleges were there auditioning. Most of the schools were from the Midwest, but there were a few others as well. My daughters studio has gone to CNADM for several years, and she has attended the college fair for the last three years. They had a ballet, modern, contemporary, and jazz audition class, some panel discussions, and then time to meet with the schools. The schools posted lists of students they were interested in talking to, and then the students went to their tables. Of course any student could go to any table regardless of if their number was on the list. Juniors were also in the audition and met with schools. Some schools awarded summer intensive scholarships, college scholarships etc. I know it’s too late for you this year (unless your dancer is a junior) but thought I’d put the info out there in case anyone might be interested in next year! I’d highly recommend it, especially if you are looking for a college in the Midwest.
Thank you for the information! It’s too bad I asked late, because Oak Brook is so close to me! Oh well! It’s good info to have for next year for people on this site!
