Dark or cheery essay?

I wrote a supplement essay for this one certain university, but I am still not sure whether I should change my essay topic now.

My essay editor has been telling me that it's fine since the reality is not always cheery, but most of my readers for my essay (who were mostly in 30s, 40s) are telling me that it is so depressing.

I think admissions won't like it that much if they become depressed by the time they finish reading my essay... Should I just submit it or start all over again?

p.s. this place I am going to apply is public university. do they really care about essays...? I really want to get in, so I just wondered.

It’s impossible to have an informed opinion without reading the essay and any applicable prompt.
