I need some advice. My nephew is a hs senior with plans to go on to college next year. He has been in a combined academic/vo-tech track for the past two years and it things work out he will have a Cisco Networking certification in June which is terrific.

Now the quandry. He was planning to attend the local community college geared toward a 4 year engineering degree in computer engineering. I was very happy with that choice and said so even tough I have my doubts if he would be able to successfully complete an engineering curriculum. Like many marginal engineering students he could transfer into another major and ultimately earn an undergrad degree.

Now for the new plan. He thinks his best option is to enroll into DeVry "College" and earn his "engineering degree" there in 3 years at a substantially greater cost than 2 yrs at the local CC and then 2 years at one of the state universities.

I didnt have the heart to tell his parents that the Devry degree is not an engineering degree but merely some sort of certificate program since they were obviously somewhat excited about this option. My only experience with Devry is a friends son who took some sort of computer program and got nary a nibble on a job prospect following graduation.

Some my question is this. Does anyone here have some statistics on Devry graduate prospects? And what would you do about talking to my nephew and his parents about the Devry option. I would hate to see them to take my advice and have my nephew fail to complete a real engineering degree program. That could end very badly. Yet I feel I must give them some info/warning about Devry's computer tech program.

Actually I feel my nephew would be better off getting his Cisco Networking certification and persuing further certification programs. That seems like a ticket to a nice technical career even though it isnt a college degree program.

Thanks for listening to me ramble and any info/advice you may have.
