GOSH my alumni interview is tomorrow. I am super nervous. I wish I can come back with a hopeful news. Wish me luck!
Does anyone know if first quarter grades are requested of everyone that applies ED, or of kids that made it thru to the “2nd round”?
@jan2022 I’m speculating here but I think that those that don’t make the “2nd round” are those that don’t meet the basic low thresholds for GPA and standardized tests. But I think that the number that don’t get a 2nd read is somewhat small. We will never know the answer to that for sure. Regarding grades it seems like counselors are being contacted for quarter grades. I would tend to think that Dartmouth would ask for grades from everyone. Seems that if they did it for some they would do it for all. Maybe others have some insight on this?? At some point the whole process becomes a black box where no one can peek in to see what truly goes on… unfortunately.
@debrees and @jan2022 Not sure if this provides any insight, but…
There is definitely an academic rating system in place because an admissions officer said that for the Class of 2021, 12% of the applicants had the highest academic rating possible.
The first person to review your application is the AO assigned to your area. Presumably the choices are accept, reject, or defer for ED and accept, reject, or waitlist for RD.
The next person is another AO from another area who looks at your application in a broader context. Again, an admissions decision is rendered.
Then your application moves to the admissions committee where the AOs who looked at your application will present your application.
The final decisions then go to Dean Coffin for approval.
So that’s from a recent alumni interviewer video, but I remember hearing elsewhere that…
If the first two AOs vote to admit you, then it bypasses the committee and ends up on Dean Coffin’s desk. He can either admit you or knock your application back down for review by the committee.
If the first two AOs vote to reject you, then your application never makes it to the next stage (committee).
All others applications will end up in front of the committee.
I am not 100% sure about the second part, but the first part is direct from a recent webinar.
I was wondering if you knew if there are certain majors that are impacted and others that they are looking for students. Could you share that with us?

Hi everyone im an international student who applied to Dartmouth ED, and still havent received an email regarding an interview.
will this effect my chances as a prospective international student?
Do internationals typically get interviews? I know that not everyone gets one, it is based on availability of interviewers in your area. Not everyone who gets in has an interview.
At this point I would call admissions and find out.
I know Dartmouth is all of our number one choices, although is everyone submitting other apps now or waiting on the response from Dartmouth? The dollar amount for each application can go up to $100, and the costs add up quickly. I heard that the later you submit, the less of a chance you get contacted for an interview for regular decision. Just curious what you guys are doing/thinking
i’ve submitted the ones without app fees, and the ones for scholarship consideration. so other than dmouth, i’ve submitted 4, and i still have 6 to submit if i don’t get in.
Regarding alumni interviews, I was told all my reports had to be in by 11/26. At this point, I would not get your hopes up about being interviewed.
Does anyone know the ED result communication process ? Do you get an email notification of your result or do they mail letters ?
@butukh Last year the notifications came at 4:00 pm on December 14th. I’m sure you get letter but the quickest way to find out is directly on the Dartmouth portal.
Hey does anyone know if Dartmouth, or any college in general, sends you anything on your phone if you provided it on the Common Application section where you could wave them permission to contact you?
@butukh i believe they’ll only send you a letter of rejection or deferral if you don’t check the portal. they’ll send you a letter and other information if accepted. decisions will be released through the portal and you can check them there. they may send an email that your admissions status has been updated, but the actual decision won’t be sent over email.
Thank you
Not sure if everyone knows, but admissions has said that ED applicants will be notified of decisions by December 15.
Best of luck to everyone!
@hansammy8 I think you asked about this on a different thread.
@Shrmpngrtz Where did admissions say this? I didn’t see that; did they post a time as well?
