Dartmouth College Transfer Applicants 2018

@IndirectProofs me too! I also hope that I get in :))

I have such high hopes. I’m so afraid they will get dashed again (already got my first rejection)! Praying they won’t.

@IndirectProofs I have such high hopes too, my small circle of advisors that read my essays from my application have hyped me up so much and have been of such strong support, but I have to be realistic and take into account how difficult it is to get into Dartmouth! What worries me is that I’ve only been in college for almost a year, so in a realistic perspective, im expecting a rejection! But then again, I truly don’t know! I just wish the decisions were out already!!!

There is at least a bright side for only being in college for almost a year, if you don’t get accepted this time, you’ll still be eligible next year. I really hope you get accepted this year though.

I’m a much older student, and I’m not sure how they feel about nontradtionals. It’s hard when you want something this badly.

I have found my bright side too. If I don’t get accepted, I have a very interesting research topic to pursue in mathematics (which is my life). The reason I want to get accepted so bad is to do research, but I’ve already decided that I’m going to pursue research either way.

@IndirectProofs you seem like you want it just as bad as I do, I hope you get accepted, especially since you have such dedication to a difficult field of interest! But I have found my bright sides as well. I have scored 2 awesome judicial internships, one with a top law school in my state, and it looks like I am going to win the vice presidential election in my current institution, AND I am taking amazing honors courses this next year which involve plenty of research that I am captivated with, so I definitely have much to look forward to if I get rejected.

@IndirectProofs what do you hope to do and achieve at Dartmouth? Basically, why do you want to go to Dartmouth? Ill go next lol

@kb199977 That is amazing! I do not know much about the stuff you wrote, but it definitely sounds like you’ve accomplished a lot.

I want to go to Dartmouth because of how small the college is, and the quarter system. I also have this dream of going to an Ivy League school since a lot of my coworkers go to Ivy League schools.

There is a quote on the Dartmouth website that says, “Dartmouth is a different experience. It’s stepping into the role of researcher, and bonding with your professor over coffee.”

This is exactly what I’m looking for.

@IndirectProofs I see, I hope we both get in! This wait is killing me, especially since decisions are right around the corner.
I want to go to Dartmouth because long story short, Dartmouth has served as a symbol of motivation and hope for me, ever since my sophomore year of high school. I come from a very poor family, and along the way, I had to give up my education for a while. Students and teachers told me I couldn’t succeed and Dartmouth is the reason why I ended up beating the odds and currently stand where I am right now. Im not gonna give specifics of my story, but I hope to bring rich urban cultural and overall diversification to Dartmouth. Aside from that, I really like how students have the freedom to choose from all 57 majors at Dartmouth. I intend to study and research in Government and engineering sciences, and revive a women’s, gender, and sexuality studies research institution at Dartmouth.

@kb199977 The wait is killing me too. I enjoyed reading your reasons. It sounds like we both have interesting backgrounds. So you must also be a nontraditional student?

I also come from a very poor family and my father passed away many years ago. I am not that close with my family, but I do have a relative (my dad’s brother) who is a well known professor and computer scientist. His kids go to elite schools, and it is very hard sometimes feeling left out. He was actually just on tv!!

His family has nothing to do with me, and it is heartbreaking feeling like I don’t have anyone especially since they are so successful. I’ve worked so hard to accomplish things in math, but my previous college record is not that strong, so I’m so scared that I’ll get ruled out.

I believe that I will contribute to the diversity of Dartmouth too. I have a very very unusual background. For example, I never went to high school, I missed grades 8,9,10,11, and 12. I excelled at math, but didn’t start learning any math until I was 24. The first year I started learning math I wrote my first research paper and presented it at a conference, but I also got bad grades because I felt “suffocated” when trying to concentrate around other people. It was a gigantic mess. I ended up leaving college because I kept having to withdraw and try again, only to still not be able to take exams.

As soon as I got alternative testing formats, I received 100’s on my finals in math (this didn’t happen until last year at the community college). Something I would have desperately wanted before.

If Dartmouth sees me for who I am, then I might get in.

Basically, I am just a big giant ball of mathematics, with two poor college records from years ago. Praying that they will see me for who I am now, not who I was.

This may sound pathetic, but part of me also wants to get accepted just so I feel like I’m on the same level as his kids.

@IndirectProofs don’t focus on your rocky past in college, you Gotta focus on the now and prove yourself with improvement. All that matters is your success now, and also, just do what you truly love! Ivy leagues aren’t everything. I would love to go to an Ivy League, but i don’t need an Ivy League education to be successful and do what i love. The same goes for you, and in the end, you should only worry bout yourself because all that truly matters is your happiness and success! You don’t have to prove yourself to ANYONE, even family. Prove yourself wrong and achieve heights that you never thought you could achieve.

@kb199977 you are right! I have a game plan if things don’t work out. Math research is everything to me, and I’ve been doing it this long on my own, I may as well keep going!

I hope we both get accepted!

this wait is killing me ~X(

I wish we knew when decisions are coming out

@IndirectProofs usually may 5th or 12th! its so close!

That’'s exactly my point. There is a huge difference between the 5th and the 12th.

I hope it’s the 5th.
