@kb199977 Aw of course! Admissions is kind of like a black hole but I think holistic evaluation means they take all aspects of our application into account. For example if you have a weak SAT they won’t rule you out immediately etc
when do we find out
@avocadough Oh ok I see, thanks! and @ilanel 100% this week or next week
Wow, guys!! Reading through this it seems like you all have some incredible stories and backgrounds to bring to Dartmouth! I really think that there are some phenomenal candidates in this thread.
I’m wondering if anyone applied to any other schools as a transfer student? If so, where? And have you heard anything from those institutions yet?
@paulele24 I did! I got rejected from Pomona, accepted to Rice and Colorado College, and waitlisted at Vanderbilt. Still have a lot of decisions pending… Did you?
@skiergirl34 wow!!! That’s incredible! You should be very proud of that. I did not apply elsewhere. For me, Dartmouth is it.
@paulele24 awe shucks, thank you! best of luck to you with Dartmouth. Im just not getting my hopes up too high because they admit so so few students. kind of a crapshoot, ya know?
I wish we knew how many they were accepting this year!
My hopes are so high, I didn’t want them to be high, but they are.
I feel the same way. I was so shocked by the number of transfers they took last year. Iʻm hoping that this year they take a number in the double digits. Yeah, itʻs true that the odds are incredibly slim, but hey, you miss every shot you donʻt take I will say, though, just from skimming through this thread you seem like a candidate that will stand out in their pile of applications.
Fingers crossed!
@paulele24 Aww that is so sweet! Thank you! I think my application will certainly be one of the most unusual applications they read, but I don’t know how anything I wrote or presented will come across to them.
I was skimming through some of the past threads and they accepted 20 one of the years, I hope it’s going to be like that this year! I guess we were so lucky that we didn’t apply last year!
Very true!
My guess is that they will accept a number more than last year. Hereʻs why.
I know that last year with the ʻ21 applications they didnʻt even go to the waitlist, because with RD and ED acceptances and enrollments, they were at capacity and had enrolled the largest class in Dartmouth history. (http://www.thedartmouth.com/article/2017/05/class-of-2021-has-record-high-number-of-students). Because Dartmouth enrolls transfers not based on class but overall space, that massive ʻ21 class didnʻt exactly bode well for hopeful transfers last year. Thus, 4 acceptances. Huge class, extremely limited room for transfers.
However, according to a more recent article (https://news.dartmouth.edu/news/2018/03/class-2022-most-selective-class-ever) with accepted ʻ22s this year, Admissions was hella selective (I assume to avoid the over-enrollment they faced last year)
This year Admissions admitted 1,925 students (the lowest number since the 1990s, see above link).
Of the 2 (lucky af) students I know who were accepted RD to Dartmouth this year, neither will be enrolling because they got more money from other ivies… If Admissions over-estimated how many students would enroll, I believe that would clear up some space for transfer students, because again, Dartmouth enrolls transfer students based on overall space, and do not enroll based on class space specifically (although there is correlation).
Itʻs really just conjecture, but based on that very limited info (very selective this year, maybe over-estimated enrollment, smaller class of ʻ22s) Iʻm inclined to believe that transfers may have a better, and maybe even good, shot this year. Iʻm thinking weʻll find out about their enrollment numbers tomorrow, because May 1st is college decision day.
Again, pure conjecture, and maybe even a bit too optimistic of an outlook, but itʻs something that helps me not go crazy during these last couple of weeks
Thoughts?
@paulele24 Your comment ^^ gave me so much hope that I can finally not die from anxiety. LOL… Thanks.
I’m predicting Dartmouth will accept 15 transfers.
@paulele24 Thank you for your insight!! It makes a lot of sense. I want all of us to get in so badly, I can only hope for it to be true!! I guess we’ll see soon, for better or for worse… :-SS
April has been the longest month of my life! Lol!
@IndirectProofs same, it’s been killing me
i literally dreamt of being accepted the other night and it felt so real. I just hope that they will post the result this week. Anyway, good luck to all of you!
OMG DECISIONS ARE OUT
