@UnivClassOf2020 I’m from the great state of Connecticut!
if i get in i will prob cry of happiness and if i don’t, i’ll start my rd applications lol
I’ll be sad if I get rejected or deferred, but it’s kinda expected I didn’t start doing well in school til junior year
Ahh yes thank the lord. Check your PMs
Am from Kenya, East Africa and am very nervous too.Hey person from Ethiopia @letmegetin ,we are like next door neighbors country-wise
I can’t seem to start on my RD schools just yet.Today I tried to write Amherst and Duke’s essays but I was too gut-wrenched to even follow through. If rejected I will be so sad I’ll probably cry then start on my RDs.
My name does not appear on the directory too.I don’t think it’s for us applicants. What do you guys think about that??
@please5-do-not% I’m pretty certain the class of 2020 is not in the system.
my friend doesn’t have an account and wanted me to ask this to you guys (she’s also applying ED): she’s a bad test-taker (her ACT is in the 20’s) but she has straight A’s, takes a lot of hard AP classes, and killer extracurriculars and she wants to know if there’s a possibility that her bad test score will be overlooked or an automatic flag for rejection
I think that it depends on where she is in the 20s. A 21 and a 28 are two completely different things. I don’t think that it will entirely be overlooked though. I think that anyone has a chance, but it definitely helps if she has some hooks. Is she an URM or a varsity athlete? What state is she from? What are her extra curriculars and awards?
I think your friend has a shot. I honestly believe stellar extracurriculars can make up for other areas which are lacking. But they really have to be stellar… not something like president of NHS… something that shows initiative, passion, and forward thinking.
played golf 3 years at school (only one girls team, no jv/varsity), north carolina, went to this program at MIT last summer and helped start this internet application, leader of a service club at school, white female, i think the act score is in the mid to upper 20s
Those ECs are very strong. The MIT camp and Internet application thing are both very impressive. Golf probably won’t get any special attention even though it is a sport with a lower female participation relative to other sports. The service club could also be really good… what types of service projects does the club entail? If it’s generic stuff like working at soup kitchens then it may not be of great value. However, if it involves doing something that shows incredible responsiveness to the needs of the community, then it definitely will help. Overall, it seems like her ECs will be looked at favorably.
Dartmouth says they look at applications holistically, so while test scores are important they will still consider other factors like grades, ECs, recommendations, essays, etc.
How many kids from your high school are applying ED to Dartmouth?
None that I know of from my school.
I know of one person, but a lot of people in my school are very secretive about college so there could be more.
Also, I really hope we get an email tomorrow announcing the date. Fingers crossed!
@cncincolor I agree, hopefully tomorrow. That would actually be great.
@clairecm98 Your friend definitely has a shot. Standardized testing is weighed less than GPA and other parts of the application.
Does anyone know whether all classes are weighed equally? I have good grades in my core academic classes, but bad grades in health, gym, and some electives.
