I don’t know anyone applying ED to Dartmouth. School isn’t very popular amongst California kids.
@gearsstudio I’m sure they’ll give way more weight to your core classes.
I’m sure they’ll look for performance across the spectrum, but a low grade here and there in an elective shouldn’t be too detrimental.
As for how many kids are applying ED to Dartmouth where I live? None from my HS (coupla RDers though) and three total (including me) from my city. There IS one Harvard SCEA that I know of from my school though - he’s Val/2400/36/etc.
I know of at least 2 others from my school who applied ED.
i don’t know of anybody applying to dartmouth ed or rd! #:-S our valedictorian is applying to whatever yales ea program is & quite a few are applying to georgetown ea… other people in the top of my class are applying to cooper union, brown, and columbia ed
Around 70 from my school apply to Dartmouth RD every year but I’m the only ED as far as I know. Most people in California apply to HYPMS or Columbia early.
@CO2020Vision thats a lot applying rd! how many typically get in?
@lexiii17 oops I meant 30! I was typing too quickly haha. Usually around 3-6 people get in each year.
My area is underrepresented, but I’m an ORM, so I don’t know how that’ll work out, lol
only one from my school… Dartmouth isn’t a popular choice amongst top students, but my state is also considerably underrepresented in Dmouth admissions (at least my region of the US is)
I think one other person is applying ED from my school this year. We usually have 2-3 applicants in total each year ED and RD but only one person has enrolled in the last decade or so.
Actually, quick Q. Do Indian-Americans get lumped in with the rest of the Asian-Americans when it comes to ORM status factoring into decision-making?
I wonder if dartmouth recalculates your core GPA like the UC’s do
@SirPepsi I’m not completely sure but I think that Indian-Americans would probably count as an ORM.
Dartmouth doesn’t recalculate GPA. It’s a small, selective college, so admissions people won’t try to quantify someone’s academic potential by giving them a new GPA. Instead they’ll try to assess them within the context of their own school, if possible. The UCs just have so many applicants, so that’s really the only way they can assess them all.
@SirPepsi they’re definitely ORM but I’m not sure if all Asian-Americans are lumped together. (I’m Asian-American as well). Since Dartmouth lists Asian American as one category in their class profile, possibly.
Only one person from my school has been accepted in the past 8 or so years and this person was recruited as an athlete.
Nobody in the past 5 years has been accepted from my school
Did any other declared math/engineer majors submit both math 1 and 2 for their SATII’s?
The number of people accepted in past years will have no bearing on your acceptances don’t worry!
@JARO10 I listed math as one of my majors and I submitted only my Math 2, I got an 800 so I didn’t bother taking Math 1. I don’t think there’s any advantage or disadvantage to submitting both.
