Dartmouth ED vs. Yale EA. PLEASE help!!!

Hello everyone,
I am really in a difficult situation. I am an international applicant to the Ivies(Dartmouth, Yale, Princeton, Harvard), and Amherst and Williams.i cannot apply to any other schools simply because only these schools offer need-blind admission to international students. So, I do not have safety schools, which really bothers me. I am thinking of doing ED at Dartmouth or EA at Yale. The latter would be the perfect chice for me as it is not binding, but I know I stand much better chances at Dartmouth, but it is binding. The problem is that my dream school is Princeton, so in case I am admitted ED at Dartmouth, I must say good bye to Princeton.Does anyone know if there is any way not to matriculate at a college if accepted ED(except playing up the financial aid)? Any advice would be pretty appreciated. And, please look at my statistics and tell me if I have a decent chance to make to the super selective 13 per cent group at Yale EA?

get those SAT scores up.

hello again, goharik ;-)

I would say don’t apply Dartmouth ED if it’s binding - you’re an interesting student, so why risk missing your chance for your dream school. True, you might have a slightly better chance at Dartmouth, but wouldn’t you always wonder whether you might have gotten in? You wouldn’t even be happy to get in to Dartmouth, as I see it, as long as there were a chance of getting into Princeton ;-)

Also, I’m sure that you could find a few safety schools by taking up contact with the admission officers - if they ‘like you’ enough, they’ll offer you financial aid even if you are international.

Go for the Yale EA - even if you don’t get in that way, they’ll still throw you into the pool of RD applicants, and they’ll know you’re interested. Like stephennn said, get the SAT scores up - you are a very interesting candidate with lots of hooks, but keep in mind that with the ivies, it’s always a lottery.

AlsoI wouldn’t say Dartmouth ED is a cakewalk either. I was deferred ED and rejected RD, although I got into Brown and Columbia RD. Admissions is hard to predict these days.

I visited Dartmouth and absolutely loved it, so now I am sure of my ED at Dartmouth!
