I have a more specific question than just my chances...

Right now, I don't know if my favorite school is Dartmouth or Yale, but I'm trying to be realistic. I will absolutely either do ED or SCEA. I loved both schools, and obviously I should only do ED if I'm 100%, you don't need to tell me that. But is Yale SCEA even realistic? I don't want to waste an ED boost at Dartmouth if SCEA is just a fantasy (I loved both, so yes, I kind of have to consider strategy)

White male, New York, competitive school sends 15 to ivy , but Yale hates us. (1/17 admitted last year)
ACT: 35 (35,35,35,36, 8 essay)-35.25

GPA: 97.64 (rank not sent, would be within top 10/365, top 2-3%)
Fresh: 95, Soph: 98, Junior: 101.4 (upward trend)
at school, valedictorian has around 100 avg
SAT II: 800 math 2, 740 us
(have to send a 690 math 1 from soph year, and a 730 us retake)
AP: Eng-5, US-4 (taking 4 more senior year)-rest of classes were most rigorous(honors)

ECs: I will try to emphasize/frame Bowling as unique. (maybe they'll see a sports trend?)

It is very realistic. Though at a glance your ECs are unimpressive, your numbers more than make up for them. You should be a competitive applicant at both Dartmouth and Yale.

Though, if there’s any real reason behind why Yale might “hate” your school, this could change.

My school has around a 10% admission rate to Yale in the last 5 years–about average. Maybe “hate” was a strong word. Students here have just had bad luck when, in comparison, multiple people often get into Harvard/Princeton each year.

The spread isn’t as big as it once was between the 2 with acceptance rates at 7 and 11 percent.

I think the oft advice given here that you only apply early to a clear favorite is silly. I’ve worked with thousands of kids who have used the early round strategically with much success.

You are in an uber competitive pool being unhooked and from NY. 15/360 to ivies is not a lot by good NY school standards so your rank will not bowl either school over. Then there’s the ECs, I’m having a tough time seeing either get excited about bowling.

So bottom line, either will be tough. That said, dartmouth is the clear choice IMO.

bump sorry

bump try #2

one last try, bump
